ONE STAR AT BEST
This property is far from the descriptions they propose that you believe. There is no shuttle service. The rooms are old and worn. There is not maid service. It goes on... Do not stay at this place unless jail is your only other option.

A place in transition
The place is not terrible - but it isn't anything to rush back to. They are trying - but they seem to be in transition. There were none of the standard things like phone directory which didn't matter because the phones didn't work. They might develop - but right now - they are only so so.

The trolley service is very cool and you can get all around the city for unlimited trolley rides for $3.50 a day.

Excellent Trolley Location
We stayed at the Union Xpress Inn on New Year's Eve. It is situated off of 240 on Union Ave, a main artery into downtown Memphis. The decor of the rooms reminds me of a Spring Break hotel with tile floors and utilitarian furniture. The best thing about the hotel is the trolley stop one block north on Madison. For $1, you do not need to park downtown for any events. We paid excessive rates due to the holiday, but for $69-79, its a good deal.

Never stay here again!
We stayed for the weekend for a birthday shopping trip. The non-smoking room smelled like old cigarette smoke and even had ash trays in the room. The toilet wouldn't flush, no microwave in the room as stated and no working vending machines at the hotel. If you are on a low budget then stay but if not I do not recommend staying here. We will not stay here again!
