Weekend stay in downtown Memphis
I reserved this room before Christmas because the stay was part of my Christmas present to my other half (along with Kid Rock concert tickets). The location of the hotel was excellent as we were able to walk to the Fedex Forum and Beale Street. I was surprised, however, that I reserved a room with a soaking tub, and there wasn't one. There also wasn't any bar soap in the room to wash hands, and the refrigerator was open and hot when we arrived. The second day, the housekeeper did put some bar soap in the room. The decor was nice, and the view I loved as we could see the beautiful city lights at night. Something I thought was odd was that on the second night of our trip (after we had retired to our room# the TV would only go up to channel 28....weird. My fave channel and the HBO channels were no longer working. But since we were in bed, I wasn't going to call and have it checked out. One last thing that really, really bothered me....the blinds in the bathroom were SO covered in dust that people's hair was stuck in it!! I have been to many hotels and this is supposed to be one of the upper end ones, but I have never encountered this problem in any of the lower end ones. Yuck. The service was great from some people and not so great from others. The bartender on the rooftop #we went up there even though it was freezing) was very pleasant and accomodating, and I appreciated that. In closing, I did enjoy being right downtown so we could walk almost everywhere we wanted to, but for the price I paid for 2 nights, I could have made a house payment. Paying that price, I had MUCH higher expectations for the cleanliness and service. I don't expect to stay here again.

Be sure to walk down a couple of blocks to Local. It's a small restaurant on the way to Beale Street. Try the crab stuffed avocado...it is divine! They said it was featured on the Food Network, and I can see why. New fave!!

Good deal on a great place
Enjoyed my time, helpful staff. Nice room, good service. Balcony was closed unfortunately. Internet a little slow. Was definitely worth it given the deal (stay 2 nights, get 1 free)

Absolutely terrible service.
I chose the Madison thinking it would be a special experience on our wedding day--a place to get ready with my bridesmaids, then return to that evening with my husband. It looked pretty and was a little cheaper (but not much!) than the Peabody. Here's what happened: Problem #1: Despite arranging MONTHS in advance to check into our room an hour early so my bridesmaids and I could get ready... and following up the week of the wedding... we learned on the spot that the person who made that promise was mistaken because they were booked. So, our ENTIRE WEDDING DAY was delayed by an hour. That meant the ceremony started an hour late, we paid the band for an hour that we didn't get, and the whole day was mayhem. Not to mention, it was embarrassing that I had a bunch of women waiting around in the lobby for an hour and no one even apologized. Yet last week, when a similar overbooking happened to my friend at the Peabody on her wedding day, they immediately put us in a conference room to get ready, apologized profusely (see #3 below), and brought us champagne. Problem #2: We had a few trays of food out as we got ready--pasta, sandwiches, etc. I asked the front desk on our way out if they'd clean the room so the food would be gone when we returned that night. My maid of honor made the same request. I even called later to follow up and make sure they'd done it. But when my husband and I returned to our (expensive) room that night, NOTHING had been cleaned and it smelled like rotting food. Not exactly a dream wedding night. Problem #3: I wrote the Madison a letter via their website AND sent a hard copy in the mail right after this happened. I gave them all my contact info, but no one responded. I followed up; still no response. It's been OVER THREE MONTHS and I still haven't gotten as much as an apology for all of the trouble that the Madison caused with their terrible service. This is the most disappointing fact of all. I am dismayed that a hotel that promises great service and a fine experience would treat a bride and groom with such little consideration and care on their wedding day. Summary: Choose the Peabody or the downtown Marriott (I have no affiliation).

Overnight Retreat
We had an awesome night at this hotel. My husband and I were in town to see Jersey Boys at the Orpheum. The hotel was in a great location in proximity to the theater. The trolley was right outside the hotel and took us straight back from the Orpheum. All the staff were very friendly at the hotel. The room was beautiful and comfortable. I would highly recommend this hotel and will stay there again when we return to Memphis!!

Pampered Weekend
This was a special occasion so we were looking for a place where there was extra attention to details. The Madison was just as advertised. The room was immaculate and the bed was as comfortable as I have experienced. The staff was friendly and eager to help . A few yards from the front door is Main street with its trolleys and horse-drawn carriages. All of downtown Memphis is within easy walking distance. If you're on a tight budget the Madison may not be for you but if you want to be pampered a little I suggest you give it a try.

Consistently inconsistent
Being charged $10.95 a night for "amenities" (like so-called free Wi-Fi, etc.) is obscene. Having to call for housekeeping for towels and general bed service and being met with one excuse and one lie is unacceptable. The hotel's restaurant staff is nice, but never completes the follow through (why do you have to always ask for a spoon?). I could go on, but it isn't worth the effort, nor is it worth what you pay. It's an uneven hotel - on the surface, looks great but they need A LOT of work to make it a quality hotel.

Short walk from hotel
If you stay in "Downtown" Memphis, you can walk to (literally) everything you may want to see. The trolley is only $1. You would need a car for the Stax Museum, Sun Records, the Memphis Zoo and Graceland. But if you just want to hit Beale Street or a great place like Gus' Fried Chicken, then it's just a walk.

Memphis Vacation
We enjoyed the Madison a lot. The service there is awesome, which it better be for the price. Our room was comfortable, great bedding and pillows. The main attraction in downtown Memphis is Beale St.. Its possible to walk there, and there's a trolley line located very close to the hotel that will take you there if you don't feel like walking. There are a couple other premium hotels that are closer to the main action. Best part of the Madison was the roof top bar with a view of the Mississippi. Even if you don't stay there, plan on going to the bar one night to have a drink and watch the sunset over the river.
