Worth the money

I stayed at this hotel with a group of girls to hang out on Beale street for a friends 21st Birthday. I chose it because the closer surrounding hotels were $250 a night. Pros: staff was nice, the parking deck was attended 24/7 so my car felt safe overnight, pretty outdoor pool area. Cons: the bed could have been more comfortable and the elevator seemed a little sketchy. In general, this is an older hotel and you can tell it. Despite this, once we got to the room it was nice and clean and once we drank enough on Beale street the super firm beds were no problem either.

Beale street has a great night life. I also recommend Club 152; it's right on the strip.

Good location but......

Can not complain about room cleanliness but the entire hotel needs major overhaul and repairs. Would not go there again.

You get what you pay for

. . . and that's ok. This is a very basic motel at a very basic price. If you stay here with realistic expectations, knowing you are getting a 1.5 to 2 star motel for a 1.5 to 2 star price, you won't be disappointed. And the air conditioning works great, which is crucial in Memphis. The location is very good - a 5 minute walk to Beale Street, and the Ballpark is even closer. It is just a few blocks from the freeway, and about 15 minutes from the airport.

Central BBQ is a 15 minute walk, and totally worth it. But you might want to take a cab if it is after dark.

Just passing through

We were driving through Memphis on our way home. This was in a very good location and was affordable. The pool was small but my kids loved it. I would probably stay in this hotel again if it was just for a night.

An economical hotel

The Econolodge Memphis is what you would expect. While the hotel itself is a bit run down, the room was clean, cool, and practical. I don't stay at hotels for their amenities, rather the activities I am interested in enjoying in the surrounding area. The Econolodge's Downtown location is a mere 4 blocks or so from Beale Street and a ton of great restaurants. Of course this isn't a 5-star hotel; however, it is an extremely affordable place to stay for the traveler who prefers to spend their money doing much more interesting things than laying around in a room. I have stayed here on multiple occasions for that reason.

Needs to be upgraded

The location in perfect! However... 1. asked for and 'recieved' a non-smoking room. When we arrived, it had ash trays on the table... 2. towels were always an issue. it was like they did not have enough to go around... 3. the sheets woul dno stay on the beds 4. our room was not cleaned the first night #which is no big deal except we did not recieve any towels and the hotel only had 1 person working the overnight shift and could not bring us any when we arrived to our room after midnight. 5. our toilet would not flush (unless you took the top off and flifted the flap yourself# and it took 2 days to get them to fix it.

Gem in the rough

This hotel located in dead center downtown Memphis is a hidden little gem. The front facade and lobby aren't much to look at, and the lobby shares room with ramps going up to parking decks. The building itself is a bit shabby, and the facilities look dated and worn. However, my room was more than spacious, extremely clean, and quiet. The television was analog, but otherwise fine. The people were very friendly and helpful, while the location could not be beaten -- a block from North Court Park, and two blocks from the park overlooking the Mississippi River, a grand view, and a grand walk. Steamboats are docked below, and many sights are within walking distance, or a half-block away from the charming trolley system in Memphis. The continental breakfast was serviceable -- a little fruit would have been nice -- and the fellow guests were diverse, friendly, and interesting -- an Italian Chapter of the Harley Davidson Club, a couple from Singapore come to see Graceland, and young travelers from Australia and Brazil. At the price, this is a hotel that's more than balances out its modest presentation.

Barbecue is king in Memphis, and there's plenty around the hotel, including one restaurant called Rendezvous that vies as the best in town.
