A Great Chuck Town Experience
My girlfriend and I enjoyed the upgraded king size bed. We spent a lot of our time touring Charleston. When we were at the hotel, we rested comfortably in the bed and enjoyed TV. The hotel had excellent service because at one point I realized I was missing my shaving cream and they quickly got me some at no additional expense. The only thing that would make the stay more enjoyable would have been a better view of downtown (we had a parking lot view) and larger bathrooms (it's an old hotel, so smaller quarters is understandable). Overall, it was a great experience and I would definitely stay there again.

Nice place to stay
It was our first time to Charleston and we think this was a nice place to stay. The staff were quite friendly and helpful--we especially recommend the concierge for help with tourist attractions and DIRECTIONS. While parking was expensive--it was the same all over Charleston. Also, be prepared that the parking for the hotel is not connected to the hotel. We recommend the Swamp Fox restaurant (within the hotel) for a nice, casual, delicious dinner. The hotel is in a pretty good spot for reaching shopping on King St. and other attractions. It is also a good landmark due to its height if you get lost. We would return which is about the best compliment you can offer.

Time-saving tip:
In Hotel
Like we mentioned before...go see the concierge for assistance with directions and recommendations for things you are interested in seeing while on your stay. The directions we received for a couple of things were extrememly helpful since they included landmarks along the way. Don't go to the tourist center...stop here for more useful info. Also...most everything in Charleston that you want to see closes EARLY; so have the concierge assist you with travle plans and reservations. One other thing...be sure to take LOTS of sunscreen.

Terrific Location
We were in Charleston for CofC Orientation. Our location was perfect, right across the street from the campus and right on the very edge of historic downtown. Very close to great restaurants and shopping and across the street from Marion Park (the site of a farmer's market on Saturday mornings). The staff was very helpful and knowledgeable. The only negative thing I can say is that the bathroom was very small and there was no shelf or counter space, which became slightly aggravating with three people in one room. Our room was very generous, two comfortable easy chairs and very comfortable double beds, desk, chair, T.V., dresser and one large closet. There was no safe in the room, but you can access one at the front desk.

Make sure to check out Rue de Jean, just a few blocks from the Francis Marion on St. John and King - the seafood was amazing. Try the scallops and pasta. Wonderful food and service. Virginia's was also great for home style low country southern cooking. For lunch you cannot beat Nick and Jim's if you like barbeque and sweet tea!

Great Location
I wanted a higher floor, we were on 3 looking at the roof. [...] They would see about switching rooms the next day - I chose not to re-pack.

Francis Marion Hotel Experience
Charleston is a wonderful city and the Francis Marion is a lovely part of the experience. Located at the historic corner of King and Calhoun, it is close to some of the finest restaurants in the Holy City. The DASH trolley stops just across the street to take you any where in the historic downtown. Tours, whether in vans or carriages, are great fun, and the plantations are not ro be missed. Best seafood? Hyman's Restaurant.

Great Location, but not clean!
Not very clean especially the bathroom, air conditioner poor, extremely small bathrooms, thin walls, and noisy. I would not stay here again and also very pricey to not be well kept.
