Beautiful views and scenery.

Great place to stay for a trip to Charleston if you love the outdoors. The property is beautiful and the staff is very friendly and offer to go above and beyond their normal duties. The rooms have a cabin like feel with lots of floor to ceiling windows for enjoying the views. Don't expect much out of the electronics and appliances, tiny old tv and small refrigerator. This was fine for us because we did not spend much time inside. There was a lot of maintenance issues in our building. Our AC stopped cooling well twice, but staff was quick to solve the issue and after replacing a part the second time we had no problems. A couple in our building were moved to another unit and workers stayed up on the roof doing repairs for our entire stay. They were very respectful and tried not to make too much noise. I did not see them doing any work on any other units so I believe this was isolated and not a case of poor maintenance. Lots of alligators in some of the ponds. Kayaking was fun. Great for traveling with dogs. About a thirty minute trip to downtown area. If you want to be closer to attractions you may want to stay closer but we enjoyed the plantation and inn as much as we did downtown Charleston.

The plantation restaurant was really good for lunch, didn't try dinner. The Glass Onion and Hominy Grill were great. We were disappointed by Poogan's Porch.

good location with room to enjoy. lot of open spaces

Very convenient for the gardens Lost of space to walk and for children to play on the river and wooded enjoyed the Monday night dinner and movie We have told several family and friends it is a good place to stay. The price was more than I like but with the time of the year and the entrence to the gardens and historical house included the price was not lbad. We went to the gardens twice, Monday and Wednesday.

Great experience

Great experience during my one-night stay. Met great people at the evening reception, had a great night's sleep in the room, and enjoyed a good breakfast the next morning. The surrounding property is beautiful and easy to walk around during the day. Staff was very helpful with any questions I had. Short drive to Charleston and a great way to unwind from crazy town madness. I will definitely be back.

Outstanding Experience

We had a small hicup with our restaurant reservations but the manager quickly resolved any issues and gave us a bottle of wine and chocolate covered strawberries for the inconvenience. The food at the restaurant was phenomenal - better than any experience we have had at other restaurants. Don't hesitate to make a reservation at this wonderful place! We will do this again.

Great homely rooms in the woods

We stayed as a family for one night during the Middleton reunion. Great wooden clad rooms in a series of separate buildings. Very comfortable and in such a lovely setting in the woods. The wonderful Middleton Place gardens and house are nearby plus amenities such as canoeing on the river. Not the height of luxury but a special place to stay.

Fantastic escape to get away from it all

They anticipated my every need for comfort. Loved the 150 gallon European spa tub and the bath salts. Peaceful, serene setting. The floor-to-ceiling windows added a nice touch.

Inn at Middleton Place Charleston

Nice room with beautiful surroundings, the grounds are well kept. The staff at registration were very friendly and helpful. The Inn's Tabby cat was very sweet as well. Our dinner at the on site restaurant was 5 stars. Our daily breakfast meals were wonderful too. I will return to this Inn at any opportunity.

Wow! What a dissapointment!

To be fair and objective I must first acknowledge that the property upon which the facilities were located was an historic and graceful plantation, which lived up to its reputation. Additionally, the modern architectural design of the Inn at Middleton is truly noteworthy. That's pretty much where the good stuff ends. The amenities were completely lacking or insufficient by modern standards. No internet connectivity. Lukewarm and limited hot water, which could not allow for a full tub of hot water in which to bathe. Worn, unmaintained, and noisy plumbing (our room and a neighboring room shared the same screaming faucet issue: it was nerve wrecking.) Old 19" tube television with 12 channels (really?) Worn and unmaintained electrical fixtures in the rooms (no grounding.) Broken, difficult, and unsightly window shudders that made viewing outside a chore. Outdated and severely worn door hardware (the key barely worked to unlock the room and the old metal door allowed for noise to transmit through.) Relatively little insulative quality to the structure of the room. Due to the concrete and steel designs the room was freezing cold, which required that the noisy HVAC run harder (the nice fireplace did help, though.) Filthy, foggy windows made viewing the beautiful grounds nearly impossible and pretty much ruined the reason for booking the room. Signs posted stated that protecting the environment was the reason for not turning in the linens and towels, yet so many other things suggested that the entire theme was to waste as much energy as possible (eg. old high capacity toilet.) I cannot recommend this place to anyone who doesn't at least know these facts before booking. As I stated, the property and customer service was great. We did not bother complaining on site due to an event in the area and the unlikely ability to book elsewhere on such short notice and the hassle of doing so. I am sending a letter to the GM soon.

Money-saving tip: Not Applicable

The Inn at Middleton Place is a long way from Charleston. Stay in Charleston or at one of the nearby beaches; and make a day trip to visit the plantations around that area. Its far more convenient.
