Awesome Experience!

This hotel definitely has the upper hand on customer relations! What a friendly and accommodating staff, from management to housekeeping. The facility itself offered clean, modern, beautifully decorated rooms with lots and lots of fluffy linens! Each morning until 9:30 a.m. the staff pleasantly provided an abundance of complimentary, delicious breakfast foods-- the coffee was delicious, as well. We were asked every day during our stay if we were having a good experience at the hotel and Charleston, in general. Great location for accessing the historical districts and beaches. We had no complaints, and felt sad to leave.

Shopping tip: Short drive from hotel

If you love to shop, hit the great buys on Market Street and find King Street for the high-end stores with the latest fashions. Find the many beautiful galleries on Broad Street, and some really great restaurants on East Bay. Purchase your tours, i.e., carriage, plantation and harbor, ahead, and enjoy the rich historical experience!

Short visit to Charleston

Hotel location is a challenge due to the one way street it is located on- difficult to get there if you don't know the area well. It's also right beside the hospital so there is some noise associated with the proximity. That being said, the hotel itself is quite nice and new, the breakfast was better than average and the staff is extremely friendly and knowledgable about the Charleston area. It was a 10 minute easy drive to the historic district. I would stay here again.

Holiday Inn Express CHARLESTON DWTN - ASHLEY RIVER

A very busy hotel - rooms were small, but clean, and very noisy. The staff does its best but it is obvious that they are very understaffed during the breakfast rush. Coffee was always out and trash was piled on all the trash receptacles. Front line staff was courteous but knew little about local transportation. I have stayed with Holiday Inn Express several times and this was the first time I was dissatisfied. I will not stay there again when I return to Charleston.

Pretty much as expected

I was in Charleston for a conference. The hotel was pretty good - nothing out of the ordinary. It was as I expected. Breakfast was pretty bleak but pool and pool area looked nice.

Excellent place to stay!

3/11/13 Reviews online are outdated. I read the poor reviews but didn't care because I wasn't going to be in the room much. This hotel was updated when Holiday Inn opened it 2 months ago (I told them about the bad reviews when I checked out and they explained this). The room /bathroom was modern, clean and NO smells. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. FULL complementary breakfast was great; eggs, bacon, pancakes, biscuits and gravy, etc. perfect location for downtown/city market activities! I will definitely stay there again. Others from my business trip weren't so lucky...

Nightlife tip: Short drive from hotel

Eat at Peninsula Grill-it's worth the money, allow yourself time to walk through the city market (all around Peninsula Grill) and see Patriots Point, take the ferry to Ft. Sumter, and tour the plantation from the movies Notebook and North and South.
