Great location!!
The Swamp Fox gives a great dining experience...the hotel location is perfectly located for walking to many shops, bars and restaurants, sight seeing, free trolley rides, etc. Classy old hotel with an accommodating staff and manager...in my first room-deluxe room-the shower water wasn't warm enough and after bringing the problem to the management's attention a couple of days in a row I was upgraded to a suite with my second free bottle of wine certificate included...turn down service with candy included is a lovely touch also!!!

Comfy upscale hotel
A great choice for our first time in Charleston. The beds were super comfortable. The staff is extremely accommodating and pleasant. It was off season so they upgraded our room and great rate in the off season! A very nice surprise. The location is perfect, walking distance to all the shops and restaurants. The attached parking garage was very convenient with special rates for hotel guests. We are staying at the Francis Marion the next time we visit Charleston.

Great Stay For New Year
This was my first time in Charleston and we chose this hotel for its good reviews and for its Southern charm. The rooms were small but very clean and well appointed. The staff were friendly and the hotel bar was nice as well. The location is one of the best things about this hotel as the area around it is experiencing a revival and some of the best new restaurants and shops are opening up around it.

Lovely hotel, would recommend for a special occasion
My daughter and I stayed there for her 18th birthday and our first trip to Charleston. Positives: beautiful hotel, helpful staff, great room with two double beds and two bathrooms. We did not mind the bathroom size at all, unlike some reviewers. Restaurant was very good, excellent wait staff. We were within walking distance of all downtown Charleston sites, and the hotel is also right on the trolley line. Parking garage a short walk from the hotel was a few dollars cheaper than valet parking at hotel. Could be better: HVAC was difficult to balance--too warm, so we turned it off at night. A mini-fridge would have been nice.

Short walk from hotel
Walking tour with Ed Grimball in the morning, followed by a Gullah tour (African American perspective) bus tour in the afternoon. Both were excellent and gave us a good grounding in Charleston history and flavor.

Good choice
Rooms are small but very nice and quite clean. The location is not bad, but it's a mile fro the Slave market, so you may have to drive to get to a lot of things downtown nearer the battery, market, etc.

Perfect Location
We stayed at this Hotel for my daughter's orientation at the College Of Charleston. The location was perfect. It was only a block away from the College and at the same time it was right in the middle of the main King Street shopping/restaurant district. It's an old Hotel that has been beautifully restored. The room was lovely, the beds were comfortable with great linens and it was very clean and quiet. The bathroom was very small but functional. All employees that we had contact with were friendly and helpful. We'll definitely stay here again.

Great family getaway
We went for my cousin's wedding. It was me, my husband, my mother, and grandfather. We really enjoyed the Historic hotel. The staff was very polite, professional, and knowledgeable about Charleston. The Swamp Fox restaurant was incredible - where I fell in love wih she crab soup. The biscuits and gravy and bread pudding on the breakfast buffet are to die for! While the rooms are a bit small (what can you do with an old hotel?), the location was the best part about it. The park across the street was home to many events including the phenomonal farmer's market on Saturdays and movie night in the park on Fridays. It was also an easy walk (for me and my husband) to the market streets and carriage rides. When we did drive, it was never more than ten minutes away from anything and there are wonderful restaurants and rooftop terraces surrounding it. We really had a great time and when we return to Charleston, we'll be staying at the Francis Marion.
