old and dingy
I thought I would get a nicer experience. The hotel was old and worn and didn't have a clean or fresh feel about it. The walls were too thin. The bathrooms were extremely cramped and were in desperate need of renovation. I would not stay at this hotel again. The only plus was the location.

When I drove up to the ...
When I drove up to the hotel from the street I had to park in their parking lot. That was tight and one was lucky to find parking if you left. Additional parking was across the street. After unloading our luggage and taking it through the awkward entrance upstairs to the front desk I was told to move my car for maintenance. No sign was posted and an employee watched us park. We had to cross the parking lot to get to a small exterior elevator to take up to our room. The room was musty upon entering and the decor was not attractive. There was a balcony with nice rocking chairs if we wanted to enjoy the view of the parking lot and side of the hotel. While resting from a long drive the fire alarm went off. Turned out to be a false alarm. The front desk staff was friendly. They didn't know where a movie theater was and took some time to recommend restaurants. Our last night there we were finally told about a book of restaurants in the lounge area. The maid did not enter our room due to the Do Not Distrub sign left out. When she saw us and did enter she didn't leave any washcloths or enough towels. To add to the experience I knocked by head hard on the way down the stairs from the front desk due to a low hanging overhead. Not good for tall people. I would not recommend this hotel if you want to really feel pampered. The location is great if you just want to save money. When asked how we could have not been placed in a room that we had to cross the parking lot to get to we were told to ask not to be on the 4th floor. Who knew?

Dining tip:
Long walk from hotel
Cafe 225 is a great restaurant and a nice walk from the hotel. It is expensive and the hotel did help us make a reservation. There are many restaurants in walking distance. Hyman's though famous seemed cheap to me.

We would not come back
The photos and reviews looked good but the reality wasn't.We were in a room at the back of the hotel and right beside the elevator. In fact the elevator was in our room! The room was small(because of the elevator?),clean but at night the door had light all around it like a good kick would knock it open.We could have complained but why did they put us in such a bad room to begin with at a time of year that was really not very busy?We would not stay here again. For $20 more a night we stayed in a fantastic room the next night in Savannah.

Great Location and Price - not much else
Great location and great price - the negative is that you can get a room next to the elevator or the ice machine especially if you get the cheapest rooms. Staff was very nice but they really can't update the rooms or make them quieter. If you are on a strict budget and want to take the risk on room location - its a super buy.

Great People/facility tired
The location, price and staff are great. However, it is an old facility and the rooms are small, cramped and worn. It is clean, however, with a good breakfast buffet and a pleasant little bar for 4:00 onward. The people reflect well on the city. This is a good place for bus loads of little old ladies with blue hair.

Perfect Charleston Getaway
Great hotel in a great location! Close to everything Charleston. Hotel staff was very friendly and always ready to help with a smile. Wished the room was bigger, especially the bathroom. Breakfast was overpriced and not very hot, but it didn't take away from our trip. Just want to Barbara Jean's instead, which had excellent pancake by the way. Would stay here again.

A work in progress...
The hotel staff were very friendly and helpful, which is something I really appreciate when in unfamiliar territory. While our room was clean and well appointed, it was very small. There was only room for 1 suitcase stand, so I moved a table and positioned my suitcase on the floor, out of the way. I was also disappointed with the view of the roof!!! I would have rather looked out onto the street, or even a parking lot. I would have stayed elsewhere had I known the dining room was undergoing renovations, and therefore, food service was on hiatus. I would have stayed elsewhere. One other area needing some attention is the partially underground parking lot. I found it dark and cramped, considering the large vehicles people seem to favor. Also, after it rained, there was standing water everywhere that need to be negotiated with our luggage in tow.
