Super price and location

We were very pleasantly surprised at the level of service at this hotel. The staff went out of its way to make our stay as perfect as possible. We were able to walk to everything in Portland from this very central location. It is really close to the Pearl area and all the great shopping at Nordstroms, Macy's, and more.

Okay, but not great

The Nines has great ambiance in an awesome area of downtown Portland, but there is just something missing. The decor and color scheme is great, but I would certainly not say that it is a 5 star by any stretch of the imagination. For Starwood's "luxury collection", I have stayed at Westins that were more comfortable (one of them being in downtown Portland)... Not horrible, just not perfect.

Great experience

I took a group of 8 girls here for a bachelorette party and it worked out perfectly. The location was perfect for everywhere we needed to go. The staff accommodated all of our needs and always had a smile on their faces. The decor was beautiful and the view was amazing.

Bachelorette party crash pad

It was ideal for a bachelorette party in downtown Portland. It reminded me of The Cosmopolitan in Las Vegas! Very nice!

Dream Getaway!

Superb. Internet was slower than molasses, but we weren't here for business so who cares. Someone had savage children of a preteen age near our room, but that's not the Nines fault. Who brings kids to a fine hotel? And then lets them "hang out" in the room? This is not Vegas. Jeez. The ambiance was otherwise without flaw. Friendly staff, set us on the right course for Portland fun and adventure. Thanks!

Money-saving tip: Short walk from hotel

Starbucks on each corner, so I went out to get my fix. Whole Foods is a half mile north west. Farmer's Market on Monday in Pioneer Square across the street. Mother's Bistro is a couple of blocks S E. Habibi had great Lebanese food. All less expensive and more interesting than the hotel restaurant, although that is a fine establishment. The bar on the roof is too hip to be real, but great views. This hotel is not a place for kids.

A Night at the Nines

Outstanding room. Well appointed. 50" flat screen. Nice furniture. Very elegant. Quite. Clean. The wife will love it. Food in the hotel $$$ with local restaurants abound, there's no need to waste $ in the hotel on food unless there's a reason. Low water pressure through sink and shower head (flow restrictors) on 11th floor.

Logistics and Lighting

The Hotel is located on a busy intersection in down-town Portland, and is a nightmare to both get to and off-load. One way streets, a small drop off area and location all make getting to the hotel and checking in (on the 8th floor) a little clumsy to say the least. The hotel staff were nice, but we felt our inner room that faced the atrium was quite dismal, and lacked privacy if you wanted to open your curtains, and as the rooms were very dimly lit one felt the need to open them for additional light. The hotel is located in a very popular area for street people, there seemed to be a fair share of begging going on. I can't say we ever felt unsafe, but it was a bit much after a while. Nice hotel
