Not so happy birthday!
So, I booked the 'suite' for $199 for one night on a Wednesday night at the Heathman...our room was TINY! The tub that I thought was going to be nice and I could soak and celebrate my birthday night in comfort was LITTLE and not so cozy. Nothing romantic about our room at all. Also, neither my husband or I slept at all that night. THe bed was hard as a rock and super uncomfortable, as well as our pillows...they were AWFUL! No matter how many or how few you put under your head you couldn't get comfortable! We'd have been happier at a cheaper hotel so at least we could have spent more out on the town. WASTE of $200 for sure. And here I was hoping for a lovely night away for my birthday. Not at all satisfied.

Amazing hotel for a downtown Portland getaway.
The service was amazing from the detailed room explanation to all the services and amenities this historic hotel has to offer. If you love quaint hotels with beautiful history & feel, this place is for you. Its location is right in the middle of downtown, convenient to everything. The restaurant is top notch & I would defiantly come back again just to hang out in the bar, even if I did not have a room. The bar fills up quickly with locals so get there early because the happy hour is worth it.

Book ahead of The Bite...
...to avoid escalated prices. Not the most modern of hotels, but an elegant, more traditional alternative. Check out the chocolate store at the ground floor as it's worth the visit.

Plush, impeccable, and intimate for two
This is the 4th year that my husband and I stayed at the Heathman for an annual event. In large part, we choose it because of its location: it is one of the few decent hotels located near the "park blocks" in Portland...walking distance to the Art Museum or Saturday Farmer's Market. Every year it is a treat. The Heathman's staff are extremely professional and attentive, there is nothing lacking. The rooms are quite small (it is a very old building), but decorated luxuriously. It is perfect for one or two, but I wouldn't try to fit children with us. I appreciated their efforts to be green, esp the fact that they had a recycling bin next to the garbage bin in the room. The Heathman is a perfect getaway for a couple for a special occasion, and walking distance to a variety of downtown shops, bistros, and sights. I have only one less than favorable comment, and that is that the price for overnight valet parking at the hotel. For one night, parking cost was roughly $30, which I think is quite high when you are actually staying at the hotel. I hoped they would offer at least a small discount for hotel guests.

Great Experience
The Heathman in Portland was a very comfortable and welcoming place to stay in downtown Portland. I thought the costs could have been a bit lower, but given the level of amentities it wasn't too over priced.

Classic hotel feel
I was in town for business. The room was small, but nicely appointed. Parking was not great. Valet struggled to find my car stating they thought I was just checking in for dinner in spite of the fact that they helped with the luggage. Overall a very nice place very historical feel.

Catch Mel Brown Trio at whatever location he's at for some great jazz! Also, the Heathman had a wonderful jazz trio in their lounge.
