Perfect Hotel and location!

We were first time travelers to Portland, and will recommend this hotel to everyone we know. While the room was a bit smaller than I expected, it was clean, quiet, and the staff was friendly and helpful. Jake's grill downstairs has great food. Across the street is a block full of food trucks, so we had plenty to choose from! The work out room is the best I have seen in any hotel. The Max is just a block away and there are plenty of things to do. When we go back, we will be staying here!

This is a great place

Nice clean room, lovely lobby, nice restaurant/bar with a very extended happy hour. I was looking for an easy place to crash for the night, and The Governor went way, way beyond my expectations. I'll definitely go back.

Perfect Location for Portland Getaway Weekend

Very comfortable bed, lovely room, bathroom was clean as a whistle. (Word to the wise: use the complementary earplugs the hotel provides. Portland is wonderful and weird and fabulous, but it can be loud.)

great beds. bad ambience.

The Governor hotel could be something spectacular. It's what I imagined from the photos they posted online. And you can see it was spectacular at one point. But now compared to the other hotels in the area and being in the 21st century, it seemed tired, shabby and unloved. The hotel smelled like a convalescent home and our room, although very clean with a nice view and a fantastically comfortable bed, seemed a bit dreary. The decor and carpet and lack of fridge was sad. I would have liked to experience this hotel several decades ago in its heydey and perhaps again if it were to be refurbished. The value it has left is its location. Hopefully they will invest more love and attention into the property and restore it back to its original splendor. Until then, I wouldn't stay here agan.

Fantastic restaurants in the area. A new one (as of March 2013) just opened a couple blocks away called Tasty n Alder. The wait was too long but I heard they have fantastic fare all around. We ended up walking a bit further down the street to a delicious Mexican restaurant called Cha Cha Cha. Great fresh food at great prices.

Old world charm in Portland

We paid for the cheapest room and got it - lowest floor with a view of the exhaust vents and no sun light. However, the room was clean and nice. The bed was too soft for my liking. Internet was slow. Positives included friendly staff, great gym facility, convenience of Jack's restaurant downstairs and proximity to several favorite downtown locales. $10 / daily internet charge was waived with Obitz booking.

Valet expense

Hotel was great with a great restraunt located inside. However, charging $35 for valet seems like they're looking for reasons to nickel and dime you. Find a local parking spot and cut your overnight parking expense in half.
