A bargain because of location
SW waterfront is not the center of hip portland...but it is close to the tram and public transit is clean and quick. This place was very nice, the bathrooms were amazing. The breakfast was super for free.

Christmas in Portland
The hotel was great! We enjoyed the convenient continental breakfast and the house made granola was yummy! The flavored water at the front desk was a nice touch. We really appreciated the use of the onsite gym - and it was a full gym with everything you could want. The riverside location with easy access to the river trail was nice, though overall this hotel is a bit isolated and not within easy walking distance to downtown. Staff was pleasant without being intrusive.

Off beaten path...but with Street Car--sorta Desirable
The location on the waterfront is kinda desirable. However, the surrounding industrial and construction going-on detracts a little from the 'spa' feel. There is a lot--A LOT of construction going on in this area--OHSU is building and there are numerous condo bldgs going-up. #Not a problem as far as noise, just ambience#. So, this is an area in development. Continental breakfast was a hit with me. They have it on all floors, so you don't have to travel to a single place. Business center is open 24/7 with printing services. My trip was focused on "the city" and the availability of the streetcar made this location a little better value. The street car at the end of September will go everywhere you need to go in the city and a little beyond. It goes to Washington Park--a must see for all visitors and I took it to the airport-multi-day passes are available and the nearest stop is about a 10 minute walk from this hotel. The hotel has gone through some updating, but the furniture is a bit worn and tired looking and the carpeting in my room really needed a shampoo. CRT TV's??? Good lord, flatscreens are so cheap and take-up a lot less space than the huge armoire with the CRT TV in it. The bed was comfy and the bathroom was very clean and nicely appointed.

Quiet, peaceful and beautiful!
The river view is fantastic, it is worth the extra $20. There is a jogging trail behind the hotel that winds around the river. The hotel restaurant is amazing - food, view and service were excellent. I had planned to stay for only one day and was going to find a hotel outside the city. I did not need to, the hotel makes you feel as if you are not in the city. I also enjoyed a massage package at the spa - great facial by Amber. Believe it or not by this review I am picky and I travel a lot. This was a great place I will come back to and reasonably priced.

Another enjoyable stay at the Portland Avalon
This property once again satisfied all of our expectations. The staff members were all attentive to our needs. The breakfast fare was delicious. The coffee was hot ans delicious. The granola was the best ever and the baked goods were very tasty. We will certainly be back during our next stay in Portland.
