Fun to see how the 1% travel. Still, we were a bit surprised by our experience. Staff was very helpful, but we felt that they were always helping us in order to get a tip. The $31 parking fee was not really acceptable, but the vallet did end up finding some free street parking. The room was not as roomy as we had hoped, and we were surprised to be offered NO complimentary breakfast items. Finally, we would have enjoyed a bathroom set-up where the sink was accessable from outside the shower/toilet area. The beds WERE very comfortable, and the room WAS quiet (even along the street).

Great stay
Beautiful location and within walking distance to lots of food and other sights. Right in downtown but feels a little out of the way since it is on the river. Food was pretty good as well. I only wish my stay was longer.

Dining tip:
Short walk from hotel
Newport Bay at the marina is always a great place to eat . However they close for the winter. McCormick and Schmicks is also a short walk and is open all year. The food there and the view is also great.

Nice stay for an urban getaway
Comfortable and well appointed, the RiverPlace is a very nice hotel in the Portland area. The location is central to many shops and restaurants. The only complaint I had was that, as vegetarians, we expected accommodation for our dietary needs to be made easily by the hotel restaurant and in-room dining. However, I was very displeased to find that unlike every other four-star hotel I have stayed in while visiting Portland, there was very little accommodation made. Dinning staff acted as if vegetarianism is unheard of in Portland, and the menu was entirely unable to be adapted. Knowing how organic and health-friendly Portland (and many of its better restaurants are) this was a big disappointment. I had hoped that in a four-star hotel, the staff would at least make an attempt to cater to a rather simple request. That being said, the hotel facilities were very nice, and our suite was more than comfortable in all other aspects. Although I would recommend this hotel to a friend, I will probably stay at a different hotel on my next visit in hopes of finding more exceptional service.

Great service, good room
Stayed here for business as hotel was across the street from my conference hotel at the Marriott. Service was spectacular, and they upgraded me to a mini-suite. Room was in good shape, spacious, and had a nice view of the park and city (and partial river view). While not as centrally located to downtown, the trolley is located within a short walk south of the hotel along the river.

Short walk from hotel
Trolley stop is a few blocks south of the hotel and is free throughout the downtown area of Portland. It was more convenient to take the trolley when going to the far north part of downtown by Powell's, but an easy walk if staying in the south part of downtown.

Expectations
The RiverPlace is quite a nice hotel with some unique features, but does lack a few things from making it perfect. I was told it was just recently purchased by Kimpton who are spending some more money to bring more things to it though. Hotel - a charming smaller hotel right on the river with a fantastic view and nice atmosphere. It has some space on the outside with bike and walking paths which do not make it feel as clustered as the other hotels downtown. The rooms and the inside are very clean and are nice and are not dated like you find at some hotels that have been open awhile. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful. Location - the location is downtown which is nice, but on the far southeast side of downtown. Portland has a ton of mass transit system that can get you anywhere downtown with the exception of this hotel so you have to do some walking if you are here compared to the other hotels that are closer to the entertainment, museum, and transit areas. The upside is it is a bit quieter and peaceful Amenities - the hotel has a nice bar and spa area for the guests which is quite comforting. The food at the hotel though is quite disappointing. Portland is a great town for food, but the food we had at the hotel was sub-par for a hotel this nice and for the city as a whole, but there are numerous great restaurants throughout the city and I understand Kimpton is pumping more resources into the restaurant and food at hotel. If you are looking to stay in and not do anything at the hotel at night, they do not have in-room movie ordering like most hotels, but they do have a selection of complimentary DVDs downstairs. Price - right now they have a ton of specials going on. You can stay at this hotel for as little as $142 a night which is quite a good deal. Normally the price is over $300 I think. Overall, a nice hotel with some unique qualities to it. These qualities some might like and some might not as much compared with the other hotels in Portland in the same class. The only real flaw that irked me was the food.

One Night in PDX
Have stayed at a lot of hotels in PDX and liked many of them. Am a big Kimpton fan so pre-disposed to like their hotels. The rooms aren't as fun/funky as others (although the bathrobes are) but big, clean and comfortable with usual Kimpton friendliness. Would stay again.

A nice get away
My husband and I hid away for an anniversary weekend with our puppy. The staff was very, very nice and quite accommodating to our needs. We were a bit disappointed with our "courtyard" view, which really just looked over the valet and front parking lot. If you're hoping to go downtown for shopping, it's a quick 10 to 15 minute walk to Portland's wonderful public transit system. The front desk is also very helpful in giving directions for getting places.
