great hotel and even better staff
The only thing I would have to liked to have known was that it is always valet parking which adds $30 to the cost per day. But the staff was very helpful and it is the perfect location.

Had everything we needed
Went to Portland for our wedding anniversary for the weekend and wanted a nice, inexpensive hotel downtown, so we chose the Marriot. The place is not right in the middle of downtown, it is just a few blocks south, but it is still walkable to most everything. It is a few blocks from the RiverPlace Marina, which we had never been to before. Parking is a little rough with $30/day valet, so we parked at a Smart park 2 blocks away for less than half that. Beds weren't that comfortable, but the pool and workout equipment were nicer than most hotels we have stayed in.

A nice central stay in Portland
The hotel provided a nice, comfortable, relatively central location to stay during our visit to downtown Portland. The rooms were just the right size, and waterfront views were fantastic! (I should note that we originally received a "waterfront view" room with only a smallish window with a minimal view of the river; but the next morning, the desk staff promptly switched us to a room with a nice balcony with NO fuss whatsoever... they actually volunteered the switch!) It's within easy distance of MAX and bus lines, and good walking distance to the Saturday farmers' market. A good place to stay!

Money-saving tip:
Short walk from hotel
Others have commented on the expense of parking at the hotel... but many solutions are available. Overnight parking on the street is free and relatively easy to find. Daytime parking is available in nearby lots with much lower all-day parking rates.

Excellent Stay
The hotel was great and service excellent, but it was pretty removed from downtown, so it was a pretty far walk to anything fun (hotel can't change that:).

It was ok.....
The staff was WONDERFUL!!! But the room was awful! tiny and dingy, in the back of the hotel, terrible view..(we got a dirty roof view!) For the price we paid I expected something at least more decent in size and location in the hotel!
