Couple Getaway

Room was decorated lovely, wine/beer hour great. The staff were helpful with food suggestions. Location excellent for exploring the city. Great hang out chairs. Wireless was great. Bed was a little hard. A hot tub or pool would be nice, but understandable as its an old hotel.

the surprise

The hotel has a great location a great staff it is clean and comfortable. The big surprise was when we arrived and found out that parking was $38 per night. We paid for one night and found other parking garages in walking distance ranging from $15 to $25 per night without a hotel stay.

The Grand Suite was well worth it!

Was so impressed with the service and loved the room! Only issue was the large jacuzzi tub in the bedroom wouldn't fill all the way without running out of hot water. Was kinda bummed since I was looking forward to it. Overall: great trip

Chic yet Comfortable

The design of this hotel is amazing. Soaring ceilings, beautiful spacious bathrooms, tons of light, and quirky yet classic. The service, as at all Kimpton Hotels, was so friendly and nice. The location can't be beat for business, pleasure, dining, shopping, or as a base to access other parts of the city via Max. We really enjoyed our brief stay.

Don't forget to make the most of the local beer and wine during happy hour. There are video games, live music, and a painting corner for the kids as well. A really comfortable environment to plan your evening's meal at one of the nearby fantastic restaurants.

Best hotel ever

My favorite hotel that I've stayed in. The location is perfect, right downtown within walking distance of tons of dining and shopping. The staff was very attentive and the service was phenomenal. I don't usually stay somewhere with valet parking, but it sure was convenient. The one thing they don't tell you is that there is a parking fee that gets charged to your credit card, but I think it was about $30, and it was worth it to not worry about finding downtown parking. The bellmen and desk staff were also very friendly and helpful. The decor is quirky and artistic, and the room was extremely comfortable. I would stay here again in a heartbeat!

Quirky but Excellent

The decor of this hotel is very quirky and definitely put me off when I first got there. However, was completely blown away by the actual quality of the room. Heavy curtains kept the room dark when closed, and it was amazingly quiet for a hotel located near the center of downtown. TV wasn't Digital or full HD and had a funny hotel interface, but that was minor complaint. A very good hotel if for a short business trip.

lovely boutique hotel in the heart of Portland

We first booked Hotel Monaco because they allow pets and we were helping our daughter and her cat move to Portland. Since then, we always stay at Hotel Monaco because the staff is pleasant and helpful and the rooms are well equipped and modern but have an older world charm. Special care has been taken in the design and restoration of the rooms and public spaces. I highly recommend.

Great location and excellent value

Stayed at the Monaco for a little over a week for a tech conference in Portland. The conference was at the convention center, which I knew from my research was only a 15 minute transit ride - along with some walking - from the hotel. The beds and pillows are comfortable, and the room itself was very clean and inviting. My only wish would be that the walls were made more soundproof - on our last night there, we were woken up at 1:30am by a neighbor listening to music, and again at 5:30am by a Macy's employee on the street outside (5 flights down) unloading things from a truck. (Note: we complained about the musical neighbor and it was taken care of by the hotel staff, but only after we made a second call to the front desk.) Oh yeah - the hot water in the shower can fluctuate wildly, but does seem to level off after a few minutes. Be careful so you don't get scalded! Aside from these minor snags on an otherwise amazing vacation, I'd recommend the Monaco - especially for its perfect location and helpful, friendly staff. Being downtown put us within walking distance of some spectacular restaurants (try Tasty n Alder for brunch and Andini for dinner - you won't be disappointed!). And of course there is mass transit everywhere, so getting almost anywhere in the city was as easy as buying a ticket from one of TriMet's many kiosks. I'd recommend the Monaco for anyone who wants to pay a little more but stay in a place that's more affordable than
