Monaco in Portland
This was a 4-5 star hotel in a 4-5 star city. Outstanding decor, and very comfortable rooms. Great location. Fantastic staff and service. Had a great time. They do need to improve their restaurant, an bit of an anticlimax in a gourmet city.

Lovely all-around
My only critique is that wireless internet should be free. It just should. I've paid enough already. Also there was some sort of loud fan near my room that bothered me a bit when trying to sleep. Otherwise lovely.

WINTER RETREAT
The Monaco Portland was a positive experience from the very beginning. We enjoyed the friendly atmosphere, including Timmy the pet concierge. The human concierge was even more helpful. The hotel was updated, and with the interesting design features, was a pleasure to stay in. The wine tasting before heading out for the evening made the experience very comfortable. The staff did more than expected, making us feel a part of the Kimptom family.

VERY SOPHISTICATED hotel
We truly enjoyed our time there. The morning coffee, tea and hot chocolate bar were great. Maybe a few cookies or fruit could be added. The 5:00 pm happy hour was also a treat. A few more snacks, besides goldfish could be added.......

Great Experience
When the worst thing you can say about your stay is that they ran out of whipped cream for the free hot chocolate in the mornings, it must be a good place. All the staff were exceptionally nice. The room was a little on the small side, but it did have everything we needed. The hotel is in a great location with easy access to public transportation, food carts and Pioneer Square. The small quirks made it fun like a hot chocolate bar and the decor. We were concerned with it being a "dog-friendly" hotel that the room and hotel would smell, but we wouldn't not know the difference if we didn't know. Lastly, the internet could be slow in the evenings. They should look into better bandwidth, but overall very happy and would highly recommend and stay again.

Poor Poor Problem Resolution by Management -
Overall Hotel is fine. pretty typical 4 star Mistakes happen even at finest hotel I rented two rooms for get away weekend with another couple 4/1 -> 4/4 Our room was fine Traveling companion's room was not cleaned properly They did not want to repack and move Hotel did send someone in to clean trash out of closet and whiskers out of sink "For inconvenience" hotel waived local phone charges....get real ,,,,that is almost insulting. You really think someone staying at an (quote) 4 star hotel does not have and use a cell phone? Maybe waiving parking (which was very pricey for downtown Portland at $38 per night ) or comping breakfast would have been more appropriate? Maybe they treat guests booked directly with their website better (we had a discounted rooms booked on a travel site ) Happened to run into a couple of managers in elevator on way to check out and mentioned our friend's dirty room. All they did was note the room number. No apology or anything I will not go be going back to this property. Management does not understand what they are selling is an experience - not just shelter for the night.

Winter Getaway
Decided for a spur-of-the-moment getaway to Portland, just for two days. We chose the Hotel Monaco based on online reviews. It ranked #1 on many sites and we got a terrific deal on the price. We loved the decor and the 5-6pm happy hour every night, we even had fun painting. It's in a great location downtown within walking distance to many attractions and extremely close to the light rail. I especially liked having a goldfish in the room, however, I did send an email requesting a fish, and I asked again when we checked in to make sure they had gotten my request, but sadly there was no fish in our room. I had to call down to the front desk and ask a third time and about an hour later housekeeping finally brought him up. The only trouble we had was that on the first night we woke up at 6:15am to some kind of loud, fast clicking sound...almost like a running clothes dryer that was off-balance. It continued for about 45 minutes and we called the front desk about it, but no one came up and the noise did eventually stop. We didn't hear the sound on the second night. We were on the 10th floor and it appears housekeeping might have washers and dryers on that floor so that could possibly have been what we heard. Might be better to stay on a different floor if you're a light sleeper like me. Overall this hotel is a good deal for the price. While not super-super-fancy it is quite nice and the staff was very accommodating and helpful. If you like an atmosphere that is funky and hip, this is the place for you.
