The history of the Hotel deLuxe Portland in Portland, Oregon, goes back to 1912 when it opened as The Hotel Mallory. Traces of the original art deco facade are still clearly visible along with the interior design that boasts a Regency theme. Crystal chandeliers and ornamental columns inside this hotel highlight the grandeur and lavishness that has greeted guests for generations.

The theme of the hotel is heavily inspired by the glitz and glamour of Hollywood. Hallways are decorated with prints of movie stills and portraits of actors from the earliest days of America's movie industry. At the hotel's screening room, you can even watch some classic films in their original black and white format.

Highlights

Nested in the heart of downtown Portland, the Hotel deLuxe is a few blocks away from premier entertainment in the Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall and European paintings in the galleries of Portland Art Museum. When you open your room's window, you will hear the city's streetcars making their loops.

Reserve a seat at Gracie's Restaurant and dine like a Hollywood celebrity. This upscale restaurant serves Pacific Northwest dishes that include delicate fish fillets and locally-grown vegetables. You can take a seat at the Driftwood Room to taste some exotic cocktails. This stylish bar also offers samples of sweet honey, extracted right from Oregon's bee farms.

Great in-city accommodations

Friendly staff. Charming restaurant with terrific service. Comfortable room. Water pressure was a bit low but the bathroom was spacious. Great location within walking distance to downtown and city sights but removed enough to be quiet. Tasteful decor. Swanky lounge. Seemed gay friendly. On Tri-Met routes.

Dining tip: Short walk from hotel

Affordable dining on 21st NW at Dick's Kitchen. Laughing Planet a couple blocks away from Dick's is good, too. Salt & Straw ice cream on 23rd NW not far from Dick's. Cool moon ice cream on NW Johnson is also awesome. These are all about 20-25 minute comfortable walk from the Hotel deLuxe.

Not 4 star quality

First and last, the room was TINY. We had a king deluxe room and my husband and I could not walk anyplace in the room and pass each other. With the bathroom door opeon, access through the room was blocked. It was warm and we could not control the thermostat, even though there was one in the room. Service was great, the bar and restaurant were good, and the common areas of the hotel were nice. But we won't return to that tiny room. There was not even any place to comfortably sit down except on the bed. Neighborhood was quiet.

Loved everything about this hotel

The location is away from noise, yet walking distance to downtown and great restaurants. Very courteous and accommodating staff. I loved the cozy room and white-tiled bathroom. I flew in from Ohio to see Pickwick at the Wonder Ballroom. Stayed two nights and slept like a baby. Very comfortable bed. I can't wait to come back to Portland and I will choose this hotel again!

Our stay....

Friendly staff. Our room was small & the bathroom was very small, but we managed . I don't like using liquid bath soap, so I requested a bar of soap for my shower. I think you should provide enough of both. Very nice stay. Restaurant was very good...enjoyed our breakfast (we ate there twice). Bath towels were nice and thick and the bedding very nice. Thank U!

Best Portland Hotel Stay

First Class! We loved everything about this hotel - the atmosphere, helpful staff, beautiful room that had everything we could want for our comfort, convenient, quiet location and a restaurant with delicious food, and a variety of options. I am a vegetarian and the kitchen prepared dinner meals for me that were delightful ! The wine recommendation was excellent and unusual as well, to our delight. I would highly recommend this as a comfortable, beautiful and luxurious urban experience in the heart of Portland, Oregon. It was like living the glam life for the time of our stay, from the gorgeous lobby, to the elegantly appointed room - even the hallways were lovely, lined with black and white stills from old movies - a cut above ! Thank you for giving me and my Mom the memory of a lifetime, from a fan in New York City.

Great for exploring downtown

I was in Portland for a conference, and rather than staying near the convention center I opted for Hotel Deluxe. It was a great way to explore the city on my way home every evening. The light rail made travel within the city incredibly easy.

Living Room Theaters in the Pearl District was a short walk from the light rail - I saw a great movie there while enjoying an organic Oregon-brewed beer.
