It felt like we slept in a closet

They offered an early check in and we excepted room 609, the room was so small that we had to take turns entering, open the door and the bed was at your feet. The sink in the bathroom didn't drain so you had to put your hand in the sink while using it. The noise at night was unbelievable they do provide ear plugs. The staff was kind, but I wouldn't recommend this hotel costly for what you get

Great location and fairly hip

Location is really good- quick walk to Powell's, Voodoo, various public transit stops. My room was massive and comfortable, and well appointed. My only real beef was in addition to charging for Wi-Fi, they charge hourly for the little office center. Also, and not their fault, but Portland / Oregon charge tax on hotel rooms even though there's no sales tax.

Dining tip: Short walk from hotel

The Roxy Diner a short walk away may not be the most family friendly establishment (look up their menu online to see what I mean), but it's 24/7, dimly lit, good food (breakfast any time) served up cheap and fast.

Great location, modern and comfortable

Friendly helpful staff, a stylish and comfortable interior and a location just a few blocks from Powell's Books and many of the Pearl district restaurants makes Lucia a great spot to stay downtown. The only negative I would offer is that the in room wi-fi signal was very weak and dropped out often. Since it was given to us as a perk and we have smartphones it was not a huge issue but could be if you were trying to get some work done. But all in all a great experience and would gladly choose Hotel Lucia again.

Delightful, but small and dark

Overall I'd rate the Lucia quite highly. The property as a whole is quite lovely, and the location in downtown Portland is excellent, close to many fine coffee shops, restaurants, and shopping opportunities, and convenient to the MAX light rail as well as the freeway. I only tried the on-site restaurant for one breakfast, but it was very good (house made chorizo and scrambled eggs on fry bread with a spicy tomato sauce - delicious!). The staff were uniformly courteous and helpful. They normally offer down pillows and bedding, but I'm quite allergic; I called a couple days before arrival to ask about changing that, and when I checked in, they'd removed all traces of down items from the room - perfect. The room I stayed in was lovely, and excellently appointed; the bed in particular was amazingly comfortable. However, the room was completely dominated by the king sized bed, which left very little room to move around, or for other furniture. This meant there was only a single side chair with a small side table. The tiny desk was dominated by a lamp with a wide shade that made it impossible to move it off to a corner, so I could only set my laptop onto a pull-out shelf; instead of a desk chair there was a hard ottoman that fit underneath the desk. Also, the lighting seemed quite dim. When the sun was down or the drapes closed, the room felt dark, almost gloomy, even with all the lights and lamps turned on. Finally, I'll note that valet parking cost a seemingly outrageous amount, although it did include unlimited in/out privileges. Overall, I enjoyed the days I stayed there, and I'd certainly think about staying there again, especially if there were a deal that included parking.

Great stay!

Wonderful superior king room, fun and quirky, love the art and the staff were great. Tons of great recommendations from front desk for restaurants, etc. Beds were a little softer than we like, but location and price were great.

Boutique does mean small

The hotel was well located in downtown Portland within easy walking distance of lots of destinations. The front desk staff were welcoming. What no helpful staff could change was the noise and the size. For the former the hotel provided ear plugs, a nice touch, but not enough to avoid hearing loud youth outside on the street nor fellow guests in the bathroom or the hallway. The room was small for one person, so cramped for two. One desk chair. The bed itself was comfortable. But there was barely room to get the room door open next to the bed. We could have upgraded to a bigger room, the option the front desk offered. We didn't. Dinner at the Imperial restaurant Saturday night was exceptional: every dish cooked and spiced right, well presented and bursting with good flavor. We would visit the restaurant again. For the noise and the size, we would stay in a different hotel.
