Great location, not your typical hotel
We really enjoyed staying at this hotel. Clyde Commons, the restaurant adjacent to the lobby provides their room service-- which was fantastic. The rooms are small, but interesting-- not your average hotel room! Not all rooms have a bathroom en suite-- some are down the hall. We found the walls/ceiling to be a bit thin-- so sound traveled from upstairs down and through the walls-- until quite late...

The Old Clyde Has Come a Long Way
I've stayed at the Ace in its previous incarnation - the Clyde Hotel - twice before. What I liked/disliked about the original are the things that still make this new incarnation charming/annoying. I liked that the old Clyde was one of the few respectable permanent/transient hotels around, with a bath down the hall and all of the historical amenities of 1920. The water temperature and pressure was a little unreliable then and it still is now, but surprisingly the bath down the hall was incorporated into my room by way of a sliding barn door so I don't know how the other rooms fare with respect to private baths. They've done up the new Ace with a very practical utilitarian style, but the details of the linens and other extras belie the socialist affect. The Ace moose custom wool blanket is very sweet and the linens and futon itself are very comfortable. The LCD tv is a little small but the programming was good. And the mezzanine lounge is very cool, not to mention the excellent coffee at Stumptown Coffee next door and the Clyde Commons restaurant to the other side. In fact Clyde Commons is my favorite restaurant in Portland. So go stay if you're up for the young hip, tattooed crowd.

Nightlife tip:
Short walk from hotel
The Living Room cinema is next door and Powell's bookstore is a block and half away. Stumptown Coffee in the building so what more can you ask for? (The Crystal Ballroom is a short walk up Burnside.)

Ace for Ace
This hotel was amazing. Right in the middle of downtown and the staff was extremely friendly and helpful. The bar and restaurant in the hotel are highly reviewed on Yelp and for good reason. Definitely for a younger crowd. Definitely not like any other hotel.

The Camper's Delight
Loved the music playing in the lobby and the vinyl selection at the desk. The haircare products were to die for. I'll be placing an order. Staff was personable and professional in a relaxed way. Location is ideal for experiencing Portland's urban delights. Curious to know if pets are allowed in all rooms. It would be conforting to know that there are designated rooms for animal guests.

nice hotel
it is a nice hotel for the price I paid. I was there for the SuperComputing 09 conference. All other hotels were booked, so hesitantly reserved a room. To my surprise, the room was really clean and the hotel overall is pretty neat. There is no breakfast service though. Since its in the downtown, you will find a lot of restaurants around.

It's a Must Stay Hotel!
Although the room wasn't as big as I had imagined, I was traveling with two other friends who also goes to university with me, we don't require much to make us comfortable and the 3 separated bunk beds certainly made us very happy. I reserve the room the day before we arrive, was very last minute, so I was very happy for the price I paid and how good the hotel turn out to be. The hotel definitely spent a lot of money and thoughts into decorating, for I'm an architecture student, I loved all the characteristics they brought into every corner of the hotel. It was also very helpful that the hotel website provided lots of pictures of the hotel rooms and confirmed my will of staying in this hotel.

Awesome!!
Walking into the Ace Hotel front desk, the staff greeted me wish cheer. Check-in was a breeze and I was in awe of the very hip and cool feel of this hotel. The lounge areas were filled with people hanging out with a lively vibe. My room was completely spotless and very comfortable. Soft carpet, VERY comfortable beds and a great decor made the room inviting and added to the wonderful ambiance. I forgot a toothbrush, and front desk personally sent one up within minutes of the call. That saved me a trip to the drugstore. One of my mornings I had a chance to try the hometown favorite: Stumptown coffee. The cafe was adjacent to the lobby. Ace Hotel's central location was excellent with a couple bars just across the street and Powell's books a block away. Excellent restaurants were not far! I loved it!!

Ace was aces
I had a great stay. The room was perfect. I had booked a shared bathroom single but they upgraded me to a standard room with a private bathroom. Great bar downstairs. Most of the staff were enthusiastic and friendly.
