vintage hotel next to Penn Station

Proximity to Penn Station was why I selected this place, and also I have a soft spot for older hotels. The room was very small, OK for a single business traveller but would have been tight quarters for two. Last renovation must have been decades ago. Things like the capped old gas line under the sink indicate that the last renovation was also done on the cheap. And why would anyone put a shower head at 68" above the tub bottom? On the plus side, I was able to check in at 0930 so I could unpack my bags and set a comfortable temperature for the room. And on the way out of town it was very convenient to be able to pick up my bags and walk to the train. On the minus side, the next morning housekeeping helpfully reset the temperature to sweltering hot.

Needs a make over bathrooms in most rooms need urgent attention.

Wonderful Hotel great location good amenities only downfall I can say is the bathrooms in the rooms are in urgent need of upgrading and the showers need addressing water running hot and cold.

Family trip

The rooms are small, but that's common in NYC. Great location. Easy access to everything. Staff was friendly and hotel was very clean. I loved the diner and Coopers Tavern. Will stay there again.

Comfort and Convenience

I was only in New York for a few days, but my stay at The New Yorker allowed me to experience so much of the city. It's location is probably the absolute best thing about it. Everything is close by. I do also have to make special mention of the room. I miss the bed already. I stayed in one of their smaller suites, but it was enough since it was just me and I was only there for a few days. I had a lie-in on my last day and it was amazing. Great housekeeping service. I'm by no means a messy person but every time I returned to the room it was spotless and smelled amazing. Highly recommended for anyone who wants to be in the city.

Confused showers

There were three things about this hotel I didn't like: 1) The shower was terrible. It would switch between too hot to handle and ice cold within a couple seconds, so you had to catch it right in the middle and then jump out of the way before it either burned you or froze your skin. 2) There was paint chipping on the inside of the tub. I planned to take a bath but once I saw that, decided to skip it. Overall cleanliness of the room was mediocre. They missed the corners and cracks while they were cleaning. 3) The room was tiny. Hardly any room to move. To reach the thermostat I had to extend my body and reach around the desk and nightstand, a very uncomfortable position. There was no fridge in the room, and the windows had a slow leak that let in cold air. I would not stay at this hotel again if I could help it.

Dining tip: Short walk from hotel

There aren't tons of good places to eat near Madison Square Garden at first glance. If you're a tourist and are looking for fun places to eat, go closer to Times Square.

All I need is a tub

As long as the hotel room is clean, has a tub, and is reasonably quiet. I'm happy. The New Yorker is all of that. Add to it the great art deco style and the warm room temp and it's all good. The garment district is not my favorite part of New York, but if you're going to Madison Square Garden or even the theater, it's not a bad location.

Great place to stop a stopover

This hotel has a great location right next to Penn Station, this is convenient for getting to and from the airport as well as getting around Manhattan. The rooms are really small, but I suppose for the price and location it's pretty standard in NYC. The room had all the amenities but I wouldn't want to stay there for more than a couple days. Staff were very friendly. Overall a great stopover.
