Exhausted NY Tourist
Not your typical hotel
The hotel is in a great location. It's only 4 blocks away from the 4,5,6 Subway. And just 2 or 3 away from the Empire State Building. It was a good base ground for doing all those tourist things in New York, becasue it was right in the middle of it all. But the area was never loud. It was very clean, great maid service, and much bigger than I expected it to be. I stayed with two of my friends in a Junior suite (one queen bed and one single bed) and we were very comfortable. Also, the hotel is old and the lobby is beautiful. It's charming. My only complaint is that some of the staff members were a bit rude to us, but it seems like that's New York for you.

Old World Charm; Modern World Amenities
Walking into the 1907 Rococo style lobby is an enchanting trip back in time! The host was gracious and informative. We had a junior suite, which served our needs well. It allowed one of us to nap in the bedroom while the other read or watched TV on the sofa bed in the small annex. The bedroom was spacious; the bathroom was compact! In fact, anyone severly overweight would not be able to fit between the sink and the wall to face the mirror over the sink. However, that being said, the modern shower was superb! The hot water came on immediately (we were on the 3rd floor) and the water pressure was strong and steady. The morning coffee and generous and tasty rolls were a nice way to start the day, along with complimentary New York Times to read in the lobby. Since we were close to major Avenues, it was relatively easy to hail a taxi.

Dining tip:
Long walk from hotel
Chez Josephine has great ambiance (dedicated to Josephine Baker) and the food and service were excellent. (short drive) Chelsea Market has numerous great places for breakfast or lunch and is a fun place to explore and a good starting point for the High Line Park.

Were pleased
Room and facilty were certainly nice enough. We would go back. We did not hang out in our room. So asthetically and functionally the room met our needs. Of course having a refrig in the room could have helped out with keeping food left overs-- but it's absence was not a deal breaker!

Great Location, Clean Hotel
The hotel was within 3 blocks of the Empire State building and 4 longer blocks to Penn Station. They have lockers to store your items in prior to and after checking out. This makes for light travel around the city. Clean rooms.

good value
Staff were not really very welcoming or helpful. A smile costs nothing after all. The reception area is beautiful and worth popping in just for a look. We had a junior suite which was ideal for the three of us.The cleaning staff were very friendly and kept the room very tidy and clean, top marks to them. Some nice bars close by.Bit of a,walk to Times Square, so wear low heals. Penn station is only a short distance from the hotel so you can get the train any where and its very cheap. Overall I would stay there again, but please some one get the staff to smile and be more helpful.

Good value and good location
The hotel was an okay standard, perhaps a little bit tired. It was really clean and tidy and the staff were great. There is free coffee and muffins for breakfast which was a nice touch and unexpected. In terms of location it was great for a first trip- close to all of the sights - empire state building, times square & walk able distance to central park, however not great if you want to find somewhere good to go for a drink in the evening, we usually had to get a cab or the subway over to Greenwich. Overal though a really good value for money.

Short walk from hotel
This hotel is really close to the empire state building. Try to get there as early in the morning as possible as it means beating the queue which can be up to 5 hours sometimes!
