not what you pay for
Dirty shared restroom, recal matter in visable site on the toilets, no reception on tv in room-they replaced tv in room with a flat screen-so I had clear fuzz snow and no reception, lap pool shut down, steam room shut down, replacing tile in entire locker room-it was like a construction zone-horrible dust everywhere, when I complained-no one seemed to care or offer any compensation.

YMCA
The staff was uniformly surly and not interested in being of help, with the exception of one wonderful female staff member. I believe this infects the attitude of the guests, from whom I got neutral-to-negative vibes.

Best, cheapest place in New York City
This is exactly what I paid for. The bed was fine and the sheets were clean. There was even a tv in my room! The room was air conditioned and there is a lock on the girl's bathroom. The staff were friendly and somebody always checked id when you entered the building. There were a LOT of kids in the building, My stay would have been better if they weren't there, but I'm sure the YMCA is all they could afford as well. I bet they liked the hostel too.

Good accommodation for the price
I often stay at this Y. The location is great and accessible, and for me, their gym as well as the steam room/sauna are the main reason I stay there. It is not for everyone, but for those who want to include workout and good steam room/sauna, etc. it is a great place.

Like a dorm
Location and price are great. Overall, it's like staying in a college dorm. Very basic small room. Bed is not comfortable. Good idea if you just need a place to sleep at night and don't plan to be around during the day. Also, mainly good for single travelers because there is hardly any space to move around in the room. The shared bathrooms are not convenient, but they are OK. Bring your own soap, shampoo. They provide soap, towel, pillow cases, and sheets, but I would recommend bringing your own if possible.

One Late Night in Atlanta
It is what it is
If you're staying in a 100 buck a night room in a city where the average rate is over twice that just to get into a basic "chain hotel", you should adjust your expectations accordingly, which I did. And as such, I was pleasantly surprised to find a room that was big enough, air that was cool enough, and shared bathrooms that were juuuuuust clean enough, but barely. In terms of location (access to transit/security/markets) it can't be beat. I basically needed a room to sleep and change in, while the for a few days. It did just that, and nothing more. The bathrooms were a bit of a challenge, as it felt like being in college again, which if you're in college, or recently out may not be a big deal, but it was for me. I would just say if you need a clean, average temperature, personal bathroom keep looking or pay for the nicer rooms. Otherwise, you cant get much better than this for the price.

Theres a whole foods in the basement of the Time Warner Center. Eat there if you're gonna be there for more than a day or so. The food's tasty, relatively healthy, affordable, and quite varied.
