Staff could use improvements

We spent 5 nights in the Wellington Hotel. The location was wonderful but don't expect more than just a good place to sleep. Not only was the service lacking but we ended up having to take care of our requests ourselves. A laundry bin was left in the halls for the entire time of our stay which was an eyesore. A broken handle to the door next to the elevator made it quite inconvenient entering and exiting. The staff was not just unfriendly but sometimes straightout rude, leaving half of our luggage to take ourselves because they saw someone arrive in a limousine. The maid was the only exception who was welcoming and polite.

Good location for subway access

Cons: One night, the pipes was making loud noises which woke me up & I had to shut the bathroom door to minimize it. The hot water was never constant. It was taking a shower & every 5 minutes, someone flushed the toilet. Pros: The maids clean the room later in the day so the knocking doesn't disturbed my sleep. The staff was very helpful & courteous. The location for subway access was perfect for me. On 55th street is the N-Q-R trains, right next to the hotel's side entrance. Central Park was just blocks away. You can see Times Square at night from the sidewalk. I would definitely get a room here the next time I visit NYC.

Bait and switch with Wellington

I arrived at 5:15 on Friday afternoon and was told that they had overbooked the hotel and they did not have a room for me . I would have to stay at the hotel across the street. I told them I had made reservations with relative at the Wellington and we would prefer to be together . They said they could not accommodate me but I would be upgraded to a nicer room at the new hotel. When I arrived across the street they said they could not give me an upgrade. I was not impressed and would recommend you stay elsewhere.

Great Location

Hotel is nice, nothing great, but in a fantastic location. The rooms were small but about what you'd expect in NYC. Definitely would stay here again.

Good for what we needed

When turning onto 7th avenue you want to make sure you pull way over to the Left or you will end up going around the block again :) Our room was not the cleanest , things on the floor and under the beds had to replace the toilet paper roll. Not so sure the sheets were changed either. We did mention this to the front desk they said they would look into it however not done during our stay. We slept on top of the blankets. Would stay again for the price but will demand a clean room next time. I would recommend based on the price.

A great family city break

Perfect location, very friendly and staff extremely helpfully. Subway right by Hotel entrance, our rooms were not available on arrival so we were put into the Park Central Hotel over the road for one night and the next day we were upgraded to a suite each, could not of asked for more. We were on the 10th floor and with the window slightly opened traffic noise could be a little off putting but was so shattered from a busy day so slept well.

Weekend Visit

On the whole is was ok and the location and cost was good for this part of Manhattan... several blocks from Time Square, Central Park, and shopping on 5th Avenue. The only complaint was that the temperature control in the rooms was poor... we had to have the window open a bit to keep from getting too warm. We could also hear the folks in the next room when they talked loudly.

Badly in need of updating - location does not trump the skeeve factor

I thought it would be fun to take the family into the City for a couple of nights over Easter Break, but...the sofa bed in our "Queen Suite" was so vile I could not let our kids sleep in it. The Queen bed itself was in such poor shape, it collapsed in the middle. The carpet was dirty and in need of replacement. Overall a disgusting experience. We actually left the first night in spite of losing the prepaid 2 night fee. I figured the money was sunk, and it was not worth enduring the situation. It is shameful that they charge as much as they do for what can only be referred to as a dump. I felt bad for all the Europeans who had nowhere to escape to - we only had to drive back through the Lincoln Tunnel, thank goodness...
