Great holiday to New York convenient location
Small lobby with long queues to check in, overbooked our room and ours wasn't available first night offered money back to stay in one room 1st night then move, however when we saw room declined this and asked for another one. We are a couple who travelled with our Adult daughter, I booked two Queen size beds, offered King Size bed and cot at the bottom of it...Given a suite with two rooms, two bathrooms, more space, the decoration was tired but it was comfortable, could have done with a coffee maker in room or water dispenser on landing. Location excellent three blocks to Times square, Rockerfeller centre two blocks away subway right next to Hotel. Why do British Travellers get such poor rooms, bad location we were in the middle of the hotel with a view of air conditioning units on a flat roof between two blocks of the same Hotel.

Should be renovated
Especially being in NYC, this hotel reminds me of something from the 60's. Kind of dingy and obsolete.

Wellington Hotel
We've just come back from fab 5 nights in NYC. Not so fab was the hotel apart from the location which is great. Very small, dark and a bit dingy room. Small bed. Windows didn't open and curtains didn't close. Even tho we have stayed here before, things seem to have deteriorated and we would think twice before staying again.

Great Location, but needs lots of work
We had a great time in NYC, but the Wellington needs a serious update. Everything needs updated; worn carpet, halls are narrow and the luggage carts have marked and scratched trim. Couldn't turn the heat down. Anytime someone in another room turn on the water we could here it. Shower as the worst, especially when some turn the water on somewhere else. The staff was very friendly and helpful with directions to things we wanted to see.

Good location.
This hotel is in a great location if you want to be near Central Park and the Time Square area. Our suite was clean but in dire need of updating. The whole hotel had a very 80's style and look---a facelift is definitely needed. We wish the staff would have been more informative at check in (provide subway map, info on local attractions, etc.). We spoke to other travelers throughout the week that had great maps and information that was supplied by their hotels.

will not make the same mistake again
needed to stay overnight for a very early meeting the next day so decided on the middle of the road priced hotel that was a mistake! i would have probably been better off with the hassle of catching the train into NYC at 4 am! the room was worn out ...close to falling apart. My pantry is bigger than the room they choose to give me i.e cheap hotel site bookings get the worst rooms in the building :( the bed was so tiny that even at 5ft 8 in. my feet were dangling off the end ...i have stayed in small rooms in NYC and europe but this was plain ridiculous. never again

Not the Wellington, the Flatotel
Arrived at the Wellington, and learned that despite a reservation, they had no room for me because they were overbooked. Since I had made an appointment for someone to meet me at my room at the Wellington, this was an inconvenient development. A Wellington bellman took me to the Flatotel on 52nd street, and this review is of the Flatotel. Had been given a non-smoking room, which presumably meant only that the walls and bedding were not on fire, since the room reeked of smoke. There were no wash cloths, no guide listing the cable TV channels, no informational brochure about the facility, and no phone books. The later didn't matter too much because the phone buttons didn't work. There were no directions for the alarm clock, which had an incomprehensible design. A full size mirror was a nice touch, but in an amazing act of cheapness, it was leaning at an angle up against a wall rather than being mounted. Went to the buffet breakfast the next morning, and was told that as a transfer from the Wellington, I wasn't eligible for it. That's right, I even offered to pay for the breakfast, but was told I couldn't buy it because I wasn't eligible. The Flatotel was vile and disgusting, and I wouldn't wish staying there upon my worst enemy.

Location was great...only
Everything about this hotel, except its excellent Midtown Manhattan location, felt universally ordinary, and sub-par considering its setting and the price. Not only was there a fee for WiFi, but the room was small, the closet was small, the bathroom was small (with hardly any shelf space and a glass cup wrapped in paper - barely a step up from a motor lodge). There were food crumbs in the crevices of the chair and along the floor boards above the carpet, which made the whole cleanliness of the hotel feel below effort.

Sightseeing tip:
Short walk from hotel
Just a 10-15 minute to the heart of Times Square and the Theater District, so this felt just far enough away from those crowds to be a bit of a refuge from the throngs of tourists.

so-so hotel
Location is great, staff was very nice and the room size was fine.No extra's with this hotel, they charge for everything even to print a page of paper. Bathroom had mold in shower and the a/c didn't work after the first day but the bed was very comfortable and we received a free upgrade on bed size.
