Radiating history from its walls, the Wellington Hotel New York?built in 1901?stands apart from the fast pace of modern city life surrounding it. The plush lobby is decked out in rich tones and intricate murals, while focal chandeliers give the interiors a classical ambience.  If you are here on business, the hotel?s central location and 24-hour business center will cater to your every need. Midtown Manhattan is full of excellent restaurants; gourmets would do well to try the Wellington?s delicious plates of Greek mezze at the Molyvos restaurant, or the Park Cafe's informal all-day dining options.

Just okay

The hotel staff was very attentive, polite and sincere. The room itself felt a little old. For example the closet would be an easy renovation to scrape away years and years of paint. The tub didn't drain very well, but the water pressure was perfect! You should know this hotel is NOT new or updated. The only real problem was the lock on the door. When I would pull the door closed and instinctually check the lock, it appeared to be closed and locked. But... if I pushed the door lightly, it popped right open. I had to start checking the door was pulled completely shut. Overall not bad for a single, not-so-fussy traveler, but if you're fussy or need things at absolute perfection, try somewhere else.

birthday getaway

the staff was friendly and courteous. the hotel itself was convient to Times square (5 blocks), Central Park (3 blocks), Macy's and a other attractions. The rooms were kind of small but since i was alone it was alright. Rooms didn't have a coffee maker, microwave or mini refrigerator like most hotels i've used but it was clean and in good condition.

Just above the Theater District

Very friendly check-in staff,in a hotel near most major theaters, restaurants, and entertainment.Bell staff were easily available to assist with luggage, etc.Room was clean, but seemed cut off from the world by nothing but walls outside the window. To be fair,I was able to check in early, and did not request an alternative room. The A/C was barely adequate, but shower, toilet supplies,TV,and tourist literature were all fine.Walked about 15 minutes to the Shubert Theater on 44th Street, and to the Empire State Building-about 20-25 minutes on East 34th.

Wellington Hotel

Initial room given to us was small and very warm . It had a leaking shower. Housekeeping responded promptly after contacting the front desk. They were very courteous and changed our room to a much larger one with more amentities. The staff were very nice. They did not provide a machine for room coffee or tea; they did not have a continental breakfast. They did not have dourtesy evening beverage station. The personel were very nice

Very adequate.

Great location.Room very small but clean. This is not a fancy hotel and should not command a very high price but it is clean and the service for this class of hotel is excellent.

Adequate for the price

Good location, small room, comfortable bed, good shower, no real vanity area. I needed to be close to the Essex House for a wedding, so location was great, and it was among the least expensive in that area. I drove a rental car in, and off-site valet parking was offerred at $35/day, though it took almost 20 minutes for them to deliver the car. Doorman was present when I arrived on Friday, didn't see another over the weekend. Front desk staff was efficient upon arrival Friday afternoon, and for checkout Sunday morning, but when I returned Sunday evening to get my car back from parking they were disorganized and distracted, and much slower in assisting me.

somewhat dissapointed

The hotel is in a great location near the central park, theater district, and museums. The building is old, and staffs manners ranged from very pleasent to rude. The room could have been cleaner. The biggest problem for me was the noise. While I didn't hear any noise from other rooms, the old windows did not shield any noise from outside. The noise from traffic was pretty bad. There was some construction going on at night on the second day and I had trouble sleeping. Given that you are paying about half as much compared to people staying at hotels in the same block, you might be willing to live with some of the things. But, I do not recommend staying at this hotel if you are traveling for important business meetings or presentations (unless you can sleep through anything).
