Washington Square Hotel
Hotel location excellent with good access to subway and availability of Washington Square Park to "watch the world go by". Area around hotel generally very quiet with good amenities such as restaurants, local foodstore and other shops. Hotel comfortable and quiet. Continental breakfast adequate. Hotel restaurant excellent for a treat. Doorman exceptionally friendly, helpful and good fun. Helped make the stay very enjoyable.

Convenient, if you're visiting NYU.
The room was fine, though the A/C is a window unit, so if you have a room on/near street level, there is nothing in the way of sound proofing. The walls between rooms are also quite thin. In terms of location, it couldn't have been better for me. It's directly adjacent to NYU, so if you are visiting the university and are not accustomed to large cities, that can be a big plus. The staff was very courteous and helpful. I asked a number of questions and made a few simple requests. All were met cheerfully. The continental breakfast was pretty standard stuff: bagels, fruit, and coffee. One simple thing they could do to improve: provide actual desk chairs, not ottomans or high school seats.

Good value, old world friendliness.
This was off the beaten track for me - I usually stay more central. But the views of the park were fun, and the hotel had a kind of back-in-time charm to it. The amenities don't match current standards, but they were clearly targeting a comfortable, familiar experience instead. Getting a relatively complete breakfast with the room rate was unusual, and many seemed to take advantage of the value.

Overall Excellent Experience
This is by far my best experience at an NYC hotel. The location was excelent. The food was good. The room was very clean. My only complaint was we were on the second floor and were able to hear the street noise at night. Luckily we turned on the window A/C and drowned it out.

Everything you want in a hotel for a true NYC experience. Great location, clean, historic, and not too expensive. Plenty of reasonably price restaurants nearby and so is the subway. One con however, the sounds of the street do come through to the room.

I just paid top dollar for this hotel?
As I was checking in a gentleman walked up and asked what a single night rate was...the clerk told him the range of rates. I glanced down at my prepayment and realized that I had paid the top rate that the hotel charges. The hotel had a comfortable bed, poor working area (narrow granite "desk" that was more like a makeup area) twin neon lights which were terrible and bright ....and no heat! The only positive was the shower which was had great flow and plenty of hot water (thank heaven because the room was freezing).
