Classic Waldorf could use an interior lift

Our stay at the Waldorf was pretty wonderful cause the building and the interiors are so gorgeous - they just don't add detail like they did when they built it. However, the room was unheated, and it was cold out. We asked for maintenance to fix this, and his answer was, "well its so nice out we don't have the heat on". I replied, "its 42 degrees out". So he got us a dinky space heater. That put me off. BUT, we got a great deal on a room there, and I've always wanted to spend the weekend at the Waldorf, so it was worth it.

good value, nice location

the hotel is a little dated but not bad. depends what you are used to and what kind of deal you can get. maybe not quite as nice as the ritz, 4 seasons, etc, but my wife used the money we saved to shop instead. so overall, it was nice.

Good Stuff!

Fun, interesting, great. Why go anywhere else? Felt like I was transported back in time to the 1940's. Only regret no taking advantage of the buffet breakfast in the lobby. Decadent and delicious.

Classic but still classy

This huge hotel is a NY icon, but its age didn't compromise the high quality of my stay. The room was up-to-date and very comfortable, and the staff professional and friendly. Other hotels are closer to shopping and restaurants, but the Waldorf is within a few blocks of everything, including Grand Central Station. My only complaints were mild--having to wait in line for a good while to check in, and a similar wait for elevators (not unusual in such a large hotel, but still a bit irritating). Overall a very good experience.

Average

Very good location, very comfy beds, room corresponding to the one bought in the package. But rooms and bathrooms now need to be refurbished ! It seems that time stops 40 years ago...

Classic elegance in NYC

The Waldorf is an architecturally beautiful building within walking distance to most of the major sites, including MOMA, Central Park, Grand Central Station and the UN. The rooms were comfortable and well maintained. A few staff dropped the ball (e.g., the bellhop who suggested we lug our own baggage downstairs to be checked) but most were courteous and helpful (e.g., the concierge who helped us find a fabulous meal on 60th Street). Our biggest complaint? Nowhere to grab a simple cup of coffee in the morning. Not that we had to walk very far for that....
