Quietest room in NYC
Went to NYC for a quick visit with friends for Memorial Day weekend. We chose The Strand for it's value and location. We found the room to be well appointed, clean, and most importantly - silent. A good night's sleep in the heart of midtown is a rarity. I highly suggest requesting a room on the air shaft side - you don't need a view, you have the rooftop bar for that. :)

Great location!!
We had a great experience at the Strand. We only stayed one night, but found the staff was friendly and very accommodating. The bell hop and concierge helped us with several things, and made great recommendations while we were there for a night. We would stay there again for sure!

Great hotel!
Pros: Hotel located at walking distance from subway stations, Empire State and Fifth Ave. Staff is very friendly and professional Rooms are clean and serviced no matter at what time you request it Breakfast was great Con: Area is a bit hidden away and quiet. Surrounded by beading stores and flashy party dresses (I guess for some people this could be a pro)

It's okay.
The room is clean. Good location. Water temperature in the bathroom works funny; it' started extremely hot, but dropped to normal when you let the water run for like 10 minutes. The roof top bar didn't match my expectation. I will recommend going to a bar near Time Square rather than hanging out among so many business people.

Nice Location, room, and rooftop bar
The Strand was located about 10 minutes away from time square area and a train station. The hotel itself was a little fancier than the street it was on. Taxi's were hard to come by when were heading to the airport since it isn't on a major street. The rooftop is also very nice as you can see the empire state building and southeast views of the city.

Something Missing
The street outside was under construction when we arrived so to get to the entrance we had to stop in the middle of the road, lug our bags across the street and jump over tar. Hotel staff was not helping. This hotel needs some staff development in courtesy, attention, and customer service. they are pleasant when you get their attention, but it is difficult. Apart from that the place is charming, clean, and comfortable. the housekeepers will knock on your door repeatedly in the morning however. this is a great place for a stopover for business or Broadway and perfect for a couple without chidren. We were staying for one night and that was fine. It was irritating that we had to beg the lobby to call us a cab to the airport. Obviously standing at the entrance with our bags weren't enough of a clue.
