Maybe 3rd time's the charm?

My partner and I have stayed at The OUT NYC back in Dec. '12 and had such a great experience. I wish I could say the same for our recent trip in March '13. 1. We had to wait a long time to check in. Only one person on the desk, and he kept answering the phones rather than helping the people checking in. We were given the wrong room number and had to go back downstairs and wait for the right room number. 2. We requested to have a room away from XL Night club - which is attached to the hotel. Last time we faced the street and couldn't hear a thing. This time it was horrible. We had to turn the heater on full blast to help drown out the sound. 3. They won't call you a gypsy cab or even a regular cab. They will have someone help you call a cab, but in our experience the guy called the cab - we tipped him but then the cab wouldn't take us to where we wanted to go because he was off schedule. So the bell hop wouldn't help us get another cab and took our tip anyway. That's just rude. 4. Kitchn - the restaurant attached, would not serve us breakfast at 11am - even though the buffet was still out. We got there right at 11 and were sat, but then told we had to leave. I get that we were late, so it's not a huge issue, but I thought it was strange that they sat us and then told us no. That's just really rude. I love the rooms and the location, so it's a toss up for me. I'm not sure I'll give them another chance, it's very pricey and when there's so many options in NYC I would rather stay where there is better customer service.

Noise and insects problems

This place is directly above the club. After seeing all the noise complaints online, I requested a quieter room at check-in, but I felt they just ignored the request. Come the weekend, the bass was thumping in my room and they didn't have another room to move me to until the next day. The new room had no noise problem at all. However, there was a dead cockroach in my towel. I left it on the floor and the next day I found the same cockroach in my towel, but the towel was folded up neatly. I am led to believe the towels aren't washed and just folded up.

Decent stay, but a little off.

I stayed here because it is where my friend recommended her wedding guests to stay. The room was a nice size, and very modern looking. The bed was so comfortable that I thought I was sleeping on a cloud. The shower head was difficult to adjust and I found the water wasn't warm enough. They had shampoo, but no conditioner, and there was no coffee in the room (sometimes 9am is too early to get dressed to go downstairs and have coffee). The place was very clean and the staff was very cooperative. The only other thing was sound: club music at 4am from the upper club level: not always a good thing.

Not 4 Star

This hotel is not a 4 Star property, despite it's billing. The rooms are clean, and the bed was comfortable, but the amenities and service you expect from a 4 star hotel were missing. Rooms weren't made up until late afternoon. Also used the spa. Very amateur. No robes for massage. The massage room is attached to the co-ed locker room, and the locker room shower is wide open. There is little security, and noise levels from other guests wandering around the courtyard are high all night.

Good Location ans amenities

The rooms are nice and bed very comfortable. There was a party on the street just outside our room every night we didn't mide and took its as part of the New York experience. Housekeeping didn't make up our room 2 days ever with a request placed on the door. Hot tub and sun room very nice. Bar staff exceptional.

Modern & relaxing unless your room is adjacent to the Club

I enjoyed my stay at this hotel because it was modern, clean, had king size beds (I'm tall so this is a plus), and had a spa-like vibe throughout the hotel. The only issue I had was the noise level late at night. There is a Club next door to the hotel. Even with the ear plugs that are provided by the hotel, they don't do the trick. So if you're a light sleeper and want to stay at this hotel, request a room on the opposite side of the hotel from the Club. Other than that, I would recommend this hotel and would probalby stay again...but on the other side!

Avoid ordering room service from the hotel, the prices are insane and you can get delivery for much cheaper from nearby restaurants.

Great Destination within Midtown

The hotel is very clean. One unique feature has the hotel modeled after an old motor lodge (which it was in a prior life) ... the rooms for the most part face interior hallways which are exposed to outside but the actual hotel surrounds these exposed hallways which further look out into common garden areas. You pay more for the rooms that face these interior provate gardens and hallways because they appear designed for guys to walk the hallways while you can keep your curtains open to catch someone's eye. So it has a cruise element to it. I preferred the rooms facing exterior which was basically a street view of 42nd Street. The hotel is on the far end of 42nd Street near the Hudson River ... pros and cons to location. Yes, it's close to Times Square but not in the hustle and buste of it. The real downside is you have to walk past busy intersections (mouth of Lincoln Tunnel) and not very scenic. The hotel advertises XL Nightclub as part of its compound; however, there is no affiliation. You pay the cover even if you stay in the hotel and you wait out in the line with everyone else (no VIP line or interior way to enter through hotel). So it's not really all that convienant. The hotel restaurant is good. And they offer some room service during limited hours which is nice. The spa area (complete with lockers, steam room, and sauna) are nice. Enclosed hot tubs (2) also with cabanas around them. Very nice. Gym has the basics ... not a whole lot of cardio machines ... but it's a nice gym. Personal trainers avalable upon request. Hotel provides free internet access but our room didn't get service. Television is nice ... they have pay per view movies, but the choices are terrible. Tons of cartoon movies that are like direct to video ones. Why bother if this is an adult hotel? Either invest in first run movies like other hotels and charge for it .... or don't offer anthing at all. The room is a good size (most hotel rooms in NYC are small). Bathroom is nice size as well. Very clean. Staff friendly. It's got a good value.

Modern, clean, good location, friendly staff

The OutNYC is a must. The hotel is very sleek and modern with great amenities and the guests are a mix of gay and straight. The front desk staff were super friendly and helpful. Hugo was fantastic and went the extra mile! We were three straight women there for an overnight stay on Thanksgiving. Hugo welcomed us, gave great directions and although we booked last minute and the only room available was a king sized bed, he gave us a room which was quite spacious for a NY hotel and with two queen beds. Great fitness center and jacuzzi. We were one block from great restaurants along 10th avenue. Our room was comfortable, clean and the decor was very modern and there was a great mini bar - including champagne and affordable snacks. The only complaint we had was about the shower - the half glass door allowed the water to flow out to the floor. I would book this hotel again.
