great for NYC frequent traveler
Primo central location. Lot's to do/see in the immediate area. Many good restaurants on that street. Free coffee bar in library. Aveda in rooms. Intimate Euro style ambiance. Nice but basic amenity level commensurate with price range for a Manhattan hotel. Beware of interior rooms, that are small and dark with windows to nowhere, however they are more quiet than the street side with brighter views but noisey in the evening.

dark but pleasant
The staff at the Mansfield is very attentive and responsive. Location was perfect for us, very close to Times Square and the theater district, about a mile to Central Park and a little further to the Frick and the Met. The library was not as described; the bookcases themselves were lovely, but there was only a sparse display of books, which were tossed around on the shelves and in disorder. The Queen room was small but comfortable for two. Iron and board have to be requested. No fan in the bathroom (which is tiny, but the shower itself is sufficiently large) and there was not enough light in the room to apply makeup; very dark. The room was quiet, with no noise from adjoining rooms. Everything was fine except for what I've mentioned. Lots of restaurants in the area also.

Perfect Location
Overall the hotel was great and we had a wonderful time. It was our anniversary, so the lady at the front desk was very nice and upgraded our room to a suite/aptmnt. The room was large and very clean. The only downside to the room was the bathroom and the shower were very small; and the feather pillows on the bed were huge and not easy for us to sleep on. However, I called the front desk at midnight and they quickly brought us two smaller pillows that worked great.

Nice location & friendly staff
The Mansfield was located very close to Grand Central, 5th Avenue and Times Square. There was a diner across the street and coffee shops on the corner. The rooms are bigger than the standard "boutique" hotels, the bed was very comfy, and the shower was a good size. We were, however, unimpressed that there wasn't an in-room thermostat and it was hot. The option was to open the screenless window and hope it wasn't too loud, or birds didn'f fly in. The staff did offer to install a window air conditioning unit, as they were in the process of updating the rooms, but we wanted to rest, so we opted not to have that done. There was a window seat with an old school radiator under it (VERY HOT) so we couldn't sit on it too long! Overall, this was a fine hotel experience and I would stay there again.

Great stay at a great hotel
Hotel is lovely, and centrally located for walking. The lobby is gorgeous, the rooms are standard size for Manhattan (read that to mean the standard size queen rooms are very small), but they are really beautifully appointed with a modern flair, and exceptionally clean. Bathroom was also small, but equipped with high end fixtures such as rain showerheads, etc. Large flat screen tv, small desk, no chairs. Even though small, my opinion is that I was in Manhattan to see all that Manhattan has to offer, not to sit in my hotel room. If you do want to lounge, however, the hotel has an absolutely lovely library just off the lobby, with comfy leather chairs, a warm fireplace, magazines, papers and of course books to read, as well as a free coffe/espresso/cappachino machine. The hotel also hosts an adjacent bar called The M Bar, which has a full service kitchen and fantastic ambiance. We were rained out one night of our stay, so instead of sitting in our room, we popped into the M Bar and had an absoultely wonderful night. The ambiance is suited to a quiet evening with a friend or loved one in a library/lounge like setting. We were lucky enough to catch a local singer/songwriter whose music only added to the already great ambiance (her name is [...], and she plays there a couple times a month if you are fortunate enough to catch her, well worth it! She was simply lovely!). Food at the bar was great, and no wait time at all. The quiet ambiance of the bar was an unexpected but welcome change to the hustle and bustle of exploring Manhattan. Location of the hotel is fantastic; a really quick walk to Times Square and Theatre District in one direction, 5th Avenue shopping and Grand Central Station in the other direction, and an easy enough walk to Rockefeller Plaza, MoMa, etc. A bit of a long walk to Central Park, but we did it (though I'd recommend a cab to reserve energy for walking the park itself). All in all, a really great hotel, well worth it, and we will definitely stay there again next time we visit NYC.

Sightseeing tip:
Short walk from hotel
If you want to venture out further than the immediate walking area of the hotel, and if you're going to be there a couple of days, when you get to Times Square, consider purchasing the tickets for the 'hop on, hop off' bus service. Very highly recommended. They take you to all of the popular attractions, run on regular intervals, and provide interesting history over the loudspeaker. And you can't beat it for making your way to all of the various attractions for daytime sightseeing. It is well worth the price of the bus, it will be cheaper than cabs in the long run, and look for the package deals that include reduced entry to popular sights such as the Empire State Building, Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island, etc.

Great location near Time Square. Smaller room, to be expected in NYC. Very helpful staff. We were ther end of Mar/beg of Apr, quite warm in the room. Its an old building with OLDER temperature control. Over all, lovely.
