An good solo traveller option

This hotel is a great option for solo travellers in New York but they really need to sort out the heating (so hot during my stay that even with the tiny window open it made no difference) and the air conditioning ( as the room was so hot I had to turn the air con on, and it was so noisy that you then couldn't sleep or even have a telephone conversation). Staff and food in the restaurant were both excellent and it is a good location for the Meat Packing District and the High Line.

A great alternative to expensive New York

I work for a small non-profit and needed a place to stay in New York that was conservative on the budget for a business trip. I decided to try an experiment and stay at the Jane Hotel after reading the many positive reviews. For me the experiment was a success. I think the import thing is to have the right expectation. The cabin rooms are small, very very very small. It was like sleeping in a sleeping car on a train, or a small cabin on a ship. Which for me I actually enjoyed. Even though the room was small, it was fairly efficient. There was a bar running along the long walls with hooks for hanging clothes, coats and towels. And drawers under the bed and an open place under the bed to store a suit case to get it out of the way. The hotel is very nicely appointed, other than the size of the room, it didn't feel "cheap". The lobby is very striking. The whole effect is like you are back in the early 1900s. The bathrooms and showers we all kept clean and I never had a problem. Most of the time I was the only one there. The only exception is in the morning, but I never had to wait. The showers and toilets are in private stalls with solid doors and walls from floor to ceiling. I think for a individual person it is a great place to stay. If I were traveling with my husband I would consider a captains cabin, which is bigger and has a private bath. Two people in one regular cabin would be a too tight for me. I stayed for 3 days. When I checked out, it cost the same as staying in any standard hotel in New York for 1 night.

Great value historic hotel near the Village. Small rooms, but clean and cozy, bathrooms outside. Everything clean, fancy lobby and great location.

Love Little Jane

Hotel was perfect for my needs; a place to sleep and shower. It was very clean, comfortable (even though room was small-- hostile-like, which one knows prior to stay), cozy, affordable. Staff was friendly. Location was fine. Building is beautiful. Other guests seemed to be cool, relaxed travelers like myself. I didn't have time to enjoy the hotel bar though it looked great. Would definitely rebook at the Jane.

SoHo

Upon my arrival, i was told i had a 5th floor room and the elevator wasn't working. Felt as if they should have told me prior to arriving that the elevator wasnt working or at least provide some type of compensation for it. But other then that you cant get a better deal for $99 in SOHO

Jane Says

The Jane is my go-to hotel went I fly into NY for business. I stay in the Captain's Cabin. It's only 50 square feet, but for me, it's all I need, considering how little time I spend in my hotel room on business trips. The complimentary bottle of red wine on the window ledge doesn't hurt either. The location is both good and bad. Good because it's tucked away on quiet Jane Street in Chelsea, right off the West Side Highway and down the street from some great bars and restaurants on gritty cobblestone streets. Bad because it's a good 10 minute walk from the L train subway stop and taxis can be hard to grab. Since I like walking, I don't mind it.

Love the Jane!

The Jane is fairly unique - its very chic, edgy, hip and the antithesis of Holiday Inn or generic American hotel. It's just down the street from my old coop so I live the neighborhood - near meatpacking on the far-west edge of the west village. Rooms are tiny - a bed and a tv, that's it - and you share a (very nice# bathroom. But for the price, the experience is wnderful. restaurant #Cafe Gitane) and Bar are great too.

My 6 by 10

Decided to stay in the city for the week for work. Picked the Jane for its reviews and location; which was perfect. Close to everything including the 1, 2, 3 and A, C, E and L... The room was tiny but once settled its really all you need. An uncomfortable single bed which was elevated for storage, an air conditioner, a mirrored wall, cable tv, wifi and coat hooks to hang everything. Definitely a "cabin" vibe. Had no trouble with noise and the bar and cafe were both pleasurable if not a bit rich. I'll stay again because A., its cheap and B., when you are in NY you are not there to hang out in your room. Things in your room: a tiny towel, no soap or shampoo, a pair of new size 6 or 7 slippers, and a bottle of Jane water. Do not open... Oh, SHARED BATHROOM, only saw a few peculiarities, but no more than if you go to a gym or swim club.

Sightseeing tip: Short walk from hotel

Check out the High Line. An old train route turned into green space that runs about 15 blocks. Great views. You are up about three stories and they've got beer and iced cream along the way...

Awesome theme & friendly

The hotels fit my needs perfectly, I needed to bunk for a night & didn't want to spend over $$200 for a New York room. The room is pretty small (crew room, $99) but pretty comfortable if you've not carrying about a lot of luggage. All in all I found the theme fun and showers were awesome :)!

Won't find too many places like this

First off, The Jane is in a great location -- the quiet end of the West Village. Great restaurant/bar/shopping selection within very short walking distance, plus Hudson River Park is practically across. The hotel and rooms are great -- rooms modeled after old-school train sleeper cars? OK! The attention to detail is amazing throughout the hotel, and the staff in the hotel and the adjoined restaurant were always very friendly and helpful. Stay here.

From The Jane you're three blocks from the southern end of the Highline Elevated Park, built atop an old elevated railway. Take advantage of it! It's so cool. Gansevoort and Washington Streets.
