A delightful Victorian townhouse in exclusive Gramercy Park. Built in 1834, The Inn at Irving Place comprises two restored Manhattan brown stones, which manage to retain their historic legacy whilst championing 21st century sophistication. Rooms, junior suites and apartment-style residences are filled with antiques, rugs, ornate mirrors and rich fabrics in keeping with the period architecture. It is all tucked away behind a modest front door that looks like the entrance to a family house, which perfectly reflects the cosy, homely ambience inside. Stroll around Gramercy Park, Manhattans last remaining private park, or wander around nearby Greenwich Village where you will find buzzing cafes and wonderful shops. Having worked up an appetite, return to the hotel for the renowned five-course Afternoon Tea. In the evening, enjoy an enticing range of tapas and then retire to the Cibar Lounge for martinis. The Inn at Irving Place is a Small Luxury Hotels of the World property.

Great Boutique Hotel

Really more of a bed and breakfast with only 12 rooms. Accomodations were great, once I found it, as the hotel is not marked with an actual name. Room and breakfast were great. A little pricey at $400+ a night, but that is to be expected off of Union Square I guess.

Down at the heels

I chose the Inn because I wanted to try something special, in a different location. On first glance the Inn appears charming, but after looking around I realized that it needs a facelift, badly. The room was dog-eared, as were the halls, the stairwell and the lobby. The stairwell needs lighting at the bottom; I almost tripped several times on the last stair. The breakfast food was covered with saranwrap when we entered the dining room; no one seemed prepared. Overall, I'd give it a 5 out of 10.

Very good choice

Loved the location, staff very professional. Only two concerns : tiny bathrooms (tho' shower water pressure etc. was excellent) and the bed was hard as a rock. If we returned we would request a room on the 2nd floor.
