good value for a group stay
A group of four of us stayed at the GEM Hotel Midtown West for a quick weekend trip up to NYC. The hotel staff were friendly and let us check into our room early, always a plus to not have to drag bags around while sightseeing! The noon checkout time was great, as we didnt have to rush out in the morning. Room and bathroom were clean, beds were comfortable. Small-ish size rooms, but enough space if you dont plan on spending your day in the hotel.

European hotel experience of the good kind
This boutique hotel was a bit out of the way but a really nice place. The room was small just like our Paris hotel room, very clean, very comfortable, and the bath facilities were excellent. Also, NY subways were just two blocks awayl The hotel was quiet at night. Best of all, the staff was unfailingly friendly and very helpful. I was directed to the Skylight Diner for breakfast, one long block and two short blocks away, and had a delicious traditional eggs, home fries, and bacon breakfast. Lots of other things there, too. Many other restaurants within a few blocks area including Clyde Frazier's restaurant. It was good!

You get what you pay for
Got a great deal on this hotel. But I got a TINY room in return. There was barely enough room to walk around the bed. But, it was clean and the bed was comfortable. The staff was friendly enough. The location kind of sucks. Being on 10th Ave is difficult b/c there is no subway near. Getting a taxi isn't too difficult though. Overall, I feel like I got what I paid for.

Quick getaway
Staff was friendly and the room was clean. Location was good and it was quiet. Unfortunately the ice machine was broken and when we returned at 11pm, the elevator was broken and was not going to be repaired until the next morning.

At least it was clean...
Well, it's not the Waldorf. Affordable room for NY. Room is pretty beat down looking, but at least it was clean. Sheets were ready to be retired, but again at least it was clean. No bed bugs to report. Felt safe during my stay. A/C caused allergy problems for me.

Great place
The room was a little smaller then I'm used to, but the staff was amazing, the room was very clean, and the message board in the loby with things to do in the area that day was a nice touch.

Simple, clean and cheap
The rooms are small, typical for NYC, but they are clean and comfortable. This is the second time I've stayed here and I would certainly come back again...

Good place to stay
The hotel was perfect for my needs - had to stay in Chelsea for an event and the location was perfect for this. The street felt a little deserted and it was no as convenient to lots of restaurants, at least ones that I wanted to go to. The room was clean, although small, but that is expected for a moderately priced hotel in the city. What made this hotel stand out was the absolutely friendliness and kindness of the staff. They were helpful, cheerful, and made my daughter and I feel very welcome. I would recommend The Gem.
