not good for business traveler
this hotel is understaffed and the staff at the front end are not willing to step in for others. Veryh often only one person at front desk. Rooms are very small. They bost a renovation, but other than a new workout room, which is well-equipped for a smallish hotel work-out room--quite neice actually, the hotel still needs more. Slow elevators, small. Everything seems very small and still long in the tooth, even for those who appreciate an histroical setting. Bathrooms are good, average size and new.

Great Family Hotel
Very happy with this hotel. The staff made everything easy with young children in tow. My children loved meeting Matilda the cat, and enjoyed the excellent accomodations and great breakfast. The location could not have been any better. The renovations are wonderful. The Algonquin has returned to top form.

First visit since renovation. Would return.
First went here in the '80s. It was fun. Rooms were old and tiny. Now rooms are updated. Bathrooms very modern. Booked a suite to accommodate our four-adult family. Perfect fit. Plenty of room without anyone stepping on each other. Location is perfect. Just a brief walk to many of the best NYC sights. All staff very friendly. One tip: Breakfast prices were high, as is typical for hotels like this. But just next door is a diner that serves a good breakfast very quickly at a good price.

Great value for a newly renovated, beautiful hotel
I stayed for a quick business overnight at the newly renovated Algonquin Hotel and was very pleased with the rate I paid given that I booked it one day in advance and the area I needed to stay in (midtown east). It was easy to navigate, good service upon check-in, and had all of the nice amenities while still maintaining a small(ish) feel. Good, comfortable, clean beds and bedding, really nice bathroom with more counterspace than many smaller rooms, and nice lighting. It was small but nice and functional for my purposes! Would definitely stay there again!

Rooms are extremely small
Location and staff were the best aspects of the otherwise unpleasant visit. The room was the size of a closet and the furniture was incredibly uncomfortable. The elevator was ridiculously slow. I had to carry my suitcase down five flights of a narrow service staircase after waiting for over ten minutes for an elevator. I would not recommend this hotel.

The Algonquin: Very Good But a Rude Welcome
We made reservations at the Algonquin about 6 weeks prior to our trip as I wanted to stay at this historical hotel. Upon arrival we were informed that they had "good news and bad news." (This is usually BAD news). No rooms available as they had several rooms out of service due to "plumbing problems." However, they would put us up in a hotel next door for a night -- no charge, free breakfast and drinks. I said that we could have stayed in any hotel in NYC but had chosen The Algonquin specifically. They were adamant that nothing was available at The Algonquin. I said we would check out the room at the adjacent hotel and "check for bed bugs." Those were the magic words and they immediately "found" a room for us at The Algonquin. (There were several people at the check-in desk and the staff did not want my comment overheard). I think they had overbooked the hotel as I did not notice any plumbers or construction workers during our 3 nights at the hotel. Overall, a great hotel with very helpful staff. Drinks are over priced but they gave us two due to the "problems" at check in.

Short walk from hotel
Figure out the subway system. It is way more efficient, quicker and less expensive than cabs.

Excelent hotel!!!
It is a very confortable hotel, the room was clean and beautiful, with a classic ambiance. The details of having a book on the bed after it was made...very nice.

Great Staff!
Really excellent and friendly staff. The room was small but very well designed and comfortable for two people. Amenities much above average (free wi-fi, free coffee, complimentary quality newspapers, etc.). Super location!
