Unhappy traveler
When our car pulled in to the drop off area the bellman started yelling at the driver immediately. From then on it only got worse. We had to wait 2 hours for our room to be ready, the front desk help was not friendly, the hallways smelled terrible, the beds are very old, small, and very uncomfortable, and the rooms are very run down. The entire hotel needs a total make over, it really does not warrant the price. We were miserable the entire stay.

New York Marriott Marquis stay
Worst part started at the check-in itself.ISSUE: Hotel folks couldn't find that I reserved 2 rooms. They have only 1 in the record. Freaking pain standing and arguing with them for more than 40 minutes.[...] A Manager stepped in...and trying to give King bed for 4 people. Stupid. After a long and frustrated argument, got 2 rooms in same floor but with 25 rooms apart each other. This is one of the expensive hotel in the area. They charge like anything and do the service like HELL. I will never book here [...] anymore.

Review of NYC hotel stay
We enjoyed the spacious room, comfy bed, and overall ambiance. The Marriott Marquis is in a terrific location, convenient to so much! The bars are great and we had an outstanding breakfast there.

Entertainment tip:
Short walk from hotel
Many Broadway plays are an easy walk from the Marriott Marquis. Even though you can get cheaper seats at locations around Times Square, you don't know what seats you'll get. Go on line before you come to New York and order decent seats. It's well worth it to see the plays from a good vantage point!

Cattle Pen
This hotel is set up for the masses. Unhelpful desk clerks, over-crowded, small rooms, ridiculously slow elevators. Possibly an acceptable convention hotel, but do yourself a favor and spend a little more for a more comfortable, civilized New York experience.

In Hotel
Make sure to establish a relationship w/a bellman early in your stay. A daily tip will help you skip the mile long cab line. A must if you have reservations or appointments to keep elsewhere in the city.

Great location!
I guess we paid for the location because it was a bit pricey for the room. I was an average size room with the basics, but it was clean. If you want room service a plate of bacon and eggs would cost you $28 and that doesn't include the service fee or tip. We didn't even eat at the hotel restaurants because of how overpriced they were, but like i said i guess we paid for the location. Walk outside and we were in the center of time square. The only reason I would recommend this hotel is because of the location.

Try the subway they aren't that bad. They aren't like what you see in the movies or hear from people. Pretty clean and convenient.

Over ated and over priced
Paid extra for a Times Square room that smelled!!! No robes, rooms very small. The bathroom had mold around the tub, one sink. Rooms were scheduled for maintenance during stay. Do not eat at the restaurant "The View" located on the 47th floor. Express elevators were slow. The food was bland and the service was bad. Had to be moved three times before receiving an adequate room. Concierge could not find a restaurant tried to send us 17 blocks when it was located only 4 blocks from the hotel, thank goodness for the internet on my blackberry.

Too big and impersonal
This hotel is massive and expensive.Do not eat here, tons cheaper outside. The fitness centre is A1.It is likely your room won,t have been seen to by maids until after 5pm each day. Staff? Very unlikely to meet any and if you have a problem it's strictly business.Location is slap bang in Times Square which is an experience but not for everyday. It is too manic.Rooms nice, walls thin.Lift system can be annoying. We have stayed in New York 5 times. If we go to New York again we will stay somewhere else and not in Times Square.[...]

Booked two doubles and when we checked in a half hour early , they said they couldn't accommodate our third party booking. They gave us a king room with a rollaway bed. This was a bad start for our kids, and unnecessary stress for us. Getting luggage from bellhop was an issue when leaving. No problem getting car from the valet service. Concierge desk wasn't helpful with trying to get a wheelchair for the city. I felt the staff could have been more acccomodating.
