Intimate, European-style boutique hotel in the Theater District
This intimate, European-style hotel is a contrast to its surrounding neighborhoods -- the showy and loud Theater District and Times Square. Where Midtown Manhattan is big and loud, the Mayfair New York Hotel is cozy and understated. Amenities include a business center and around-the-clock concierge service. Special touches such as fresh flowers in the rooms are unexpected in a property of this size.

Not what expected

The hotel is in need of some major renovations. The online photos and the actual are really off. The room are small but knew they were, but rugs in room was very dirty, the hallway rug and the water damaged on the ceiling was bad.Do not let the location be the sale for this property. It should be a maybe 1 star, Compared to other NY properties this was far worse than I thought. The hotel is in need of a lot of repair so be very weary if you stay here. I do not plan to ever visit this property. I lived in NY for 10 years and shocked about the upkeep

Left me speechless

First, before I get rolling on this review, let me explain that I used to live in NYC. This may account for some of my shock and awe at how expensive a hotel can be in the heart of the city that is LESS than acceptable. I was apprehensive about booking but the majority of the reviews seemed on the good side. My review will not be on the good side. Bad, very bad. My room was tiny...and I'm a tiny petite gal but this room was ridiculous! The door barely opened without hitting the bed. If they give you room 709, say NO as I suspect it must be the smallest one in the place. The location and lobby are great. The lobby looks beautiful so the quality of the room was shocking. The bathroom was in addition to being tiny...dirty...when i wiped the room down with my little sanitizer wipes (yes I do that in every hotel...no matter how up scaled) - the wipe was DIRTY. Not something that usually happens when I lightly run a wipe along a sink, remote, door handle, etc. The worst part is at the end of the night when I turned down the bed, there were hairs in it...long black hairs. I slept on top of the covers in my clothes. The bottom of the shower stall was so filthy and old I took a shower in my socks.True story. On top of that the dirtiness - there were other unsettling things...air conditioner would only come on after I jiggled the cord that was plugged into a wall socket that was HANGING out of the wall next to the window. The plug in the bathroom did not work and the hair dryer provided also did not work. Fire hazard & electrical problems anyone? I know you'll find this hard to believe, but I am NOT a difficult customer. It takes an awful lot for me to take time to post a negative review...but this place just is wrong on so many levels. Maybe I got the worst room in the house and perhaps the others are better. But I am not willing to try again. Ever. I paid almost $200 for this room and it was not worth the sacrifice for cleanliness and safety. I'd rather stay further uptown or downtown and pay less. Being a former new yorker you would think I would have thought that way from the beginning. Lesson learned.

ONLY AN AVERAGE VALUE

The hotel seems to have been a nice hotel that had been refurbished 10 to 20 years ago. It's time to work on it. First of all, the hotel is not handicapped accessible. Three granite steps from the street lead to another couple of steps to get into the lobby. Only one handrail at the street which is often blocked by smokers. Room is small (as are all NYC hotels).. No information in the room about hotel amenities. Shower only, no tub. Before I stayed there again I would do a little more research on other hotels in the area.

Perfect for a quick over night stay

I stayed here recently for work - I live well outside the suburbs and needed to come to NYC for an early meeting the next day. My office is in Times Square, so this place provided a perfect location and cheap option. All I'm doing is sleeping there and taking a shower, so I will never need more than this place. Place is very outdated, but not a deterrent.
