OK place if you get a great price
The location was great and the staff were pleasant, but they need to fix the basics before doing anything else. The heating did not work properly so we had to sleep with the windows open in winter to try and cool the room down. It made it very hard to control the temperature and the noise was a problem with open windows. They told us about the problem when we checked in and their only solution was to open the windows. They had placed duct tape over the vents to try and help, but it didn't work. The beds were worn out and sloped toward the middle...like sleeping on a hill. Everything else was very nice. I would never stay here for full price, but if you can get %50 off or more and you are flexible travelers the location is great.

needs some updating
The nicest thing about this hotel is that it is vvery clean and quiet. the location is less than ideal because there are not a lot of restaurants in the immediate area. the worst thing is that this hotel advertizes having a fitness room, BUT there is NOE on premises and the one they offer is several long blocks away. This needs to be fully diclosed; doesn't work for a busy person on business needing a convenient place to exercise, or for anyone on cold days.

Not your normal welcoming American Hotel
Lots of niggles: Firstly they didn't recognise our booking and assumed I was a Mr J J Palmer from Chicago therefore the room was set up for one. The room didn't have a mini bar (apparently they are on order!). They wanted to charge for WiFi access and I told no way and they dropped it. The heating stopped working on day three and it an hour to get a heater delivered. The maid packed my wife's nightgown up withe bed linen and it had to be recovered from the cleaning company! Some of the staff we apologetic and helpful.

Great hotel in a quiet section of NYC
First rate hotel at a reasonable price. Just as advertised....4 star hotel in a quiet section of Murray Hill. Still easy walking distance to Times Square, the theatre district, and just a few blocks from Grand Central Station. The entire staff was helpful. Would definitely stay again. Not sure if they have a workout/exercise area, but didn't need one with all the walking around NYC my wife and I did.

A wonderfully clean & beautiful hotel
The Kitano is really lovely & I was surprised to get a room "upgrade" to a larger suite with a couch & seat. The room has heated towel rack, robe, slippers, hot tea pot - Just be careful if you hook up for wi-fi/internet - Accidentally bought service for a hotel across the street (so many hotels close together) - The Kitano hotel wifi is per device & when prompted, the charge will be added to your room bill (If you are asked for a credit card #, then it's for another hotel)

Very convenient to Grand Central Terminal
Nice hotel. Loose manhole cover on 38th street needs attention to stop the thumping. They deep fry the breakfast bacon, I prefer it grilled.

NYC trip Sep 3 2011
We had enjoyed walking around NYC as well as shopping. The location of the hotel was good and convenient for us as it was near to Grand Central Station. It's also nice that Japan TV was available to watch at free of charges in the hotel room.

Frommer Missed This One!
This was special trip to NYC for my wife and I. It was a combination of birthday's, an anniversary, a very belated honeymoon, and the first visit to NYC for my wife. The Kitano is a few blocks from Grand Central, so getting around NYC was easy. Our room was on the sixth floor overlooking Park Ave. We were amazed at how quiet it was. One thing my wife noted was how clean the room was compared to other highly rated hotels. Both the rugs and the bathroom was spotless, no signs of residue from previous occupants. The only negative item was noise from the hallway easily filtered into the room, but most guests were quiet so it wasn't a big problem. We are planning future trips back to NYC and will seriously consider staying at The Kitano again.
