The famous architects Mergatroyd and Ogden built the Jolly Hotel Madison Towers in 1923; it is a rare example of "Italianate" style still in existence in Manhattan. In 1991 the largest Italian Hotel chain "Jolly Hotels" purchased it. Recently described by the New York Times as a charming business boutique hotel, it is conveniently located in midtown Manhattan on 38th street between Madison Avenue and Park Avenue. All the rooms offer a unique, relaxing and sophisticated European ambiance together with the latest up to date technology.

Some staff made me uncomfortable

The desk staff on check in was good, however, for my entire stay I was constantly asked what room are you in? and do you have a room here? as if I'm not supposed to be in the hotel I just checked in to. It felt like my family and I was not supposed to be in that hotel. No microwave in the building. I would never stay in a place where I didn't feel comfortable, and I would never go back. I watched as other guests was treated a lot nicer and more pleasant, as if they belonged. I'm not the one to play a race card, but the feeling was unmistakable. Overall a 1-2 rating. Never again!

Nice trip

This hotel is awful... It looks nice at the entrance but that's pretty much all ... The staff is so rude!!! They don't care!!! My room vas very small, not very clean, the TV didn't work, no wifi, they charge $10 for wifi daily. The location is ok, that's why I choose this hotel, but I will never ever going to stay at this place again.

Trip

The hotel was in a good location but wasn't my first choice. Every time I talked to someone I got a different answer and some staff were rude. We had a do not disturb tag on our door, after we got back from touring all day the tag was gone and the room was cleaned. I had to call the front desk and request a new door tag. We felt like this was a HUGE invasion of our privacy! Also the maids asked if we they can clean the room. We had a do not disturb door tag, I don't want to be harassed about something I clearly do not want. Next time we are in NYC we will NOT be staying here!!

4 day couple retreat

Didn't spend much time in the room. Old tube type TV worked and didn't. Hotel restaurant to pricey to try. $27.00 for breakfast per head. Great restaurant (Moonstruck) 1/3 the price across the street. Hotel was clean and employees nice. TV was fixed a couple of times promptly. Comfy bed and temperature was comfy in January. Priced right.

Fantastic first trip to New York

We just recently returned from New York and I have to say that I had a fantastic time! We had been warned that we needed to watch for shared bathrooms and that room size would be tiny. However, I was greatly surprised when we got into the hotel. The lobby was absolutely gorgeous and the staff was beyond helpful and very nice. We got up to our room and couldn't believe it. The room was actually pretty good sized for what we were expecting. It also had a closet for extra space. The bathroom was HUGE and absolutely amazing. I wanted to bring it home with me. We didn't do the breakfast there because it was pricey. However there was a little grocery style store right around the corner so we just grabbed stuff from there. There was also numerous restaurants in the area. It was only a couple short block walk to the Empire State Building and not far from Time Square either. Central Park was a bit of a distance away. We took a cab up there and decided to walk back which was actually a great walk. The walk took you right past a ton of shops and restaurants. Not to mention the view and scenery were amazing, especially at night all lite up. We are already talking about when we want to go back again and will not hesitate to stay at this hotel again. We couldn't have imagined staying somewhere else for this price and actually being this comfortable.

Fantastic Location

The location is fantastic. It's located close to Empire State Building, Times Square, and the Grand Central. The amenities are a little lacking though; just the basic bathroom, bed, table, and chair.

okay room, good location

The overall service was good. The location was great, close to everything. The sheets were washed in something too strong, they caused both my husband and I to dry out before the morning. The bistro associated with the hotel wouldn't let us take coffee into our room in the morning (?). Otherwise the staff was very pleasant and accommodating. Overall a good experience for the great package price we got.

Dining tip: Short walk from hotel

Fagiolini Italian Resaurant. Absolutely delicious, short walk from hotel, and very well priced.
