Central Tourist Location in New York
Excellent five night stay at this hotel. As tourists we appreciated the central location - close to many sights and attractions including Broadway, as well as multiple subway lines. The staff was very helpful responding to several requests. For example, we were loaned a high quality umbrella with a simple request that it be returned after use. The room was both well equipped and comfortable. One small issue was that the air conditioning provided lots of cooling, but left the room very damp. Our positive experience was in keeping with the somewhat upmarket pricing for a hotel of this quality.

Know what you want out of this location
Because of the hotel location, the room is not large. But it is comfortable. I accidentally touched a bottle of wine and was charged for it when I checked out. A charge was also made because, according to the hotel, I use the hotel phone once. Both charges were removed but it's a waste of time. The staff are friendly but lack organization skills when more than a few guests are waiting to be served. The ability to do things well AND quickly are the reasons why guests want to go back to this type of establishments.

Nightlife tip:
Short walk from hotel
Go visit Birdland. It's 25 ft. from across the hotel. Eat in Shack at least once. It's right around the corner. Walk two blocks west to Clinton/Helll's Kitchen and enjoy the people there. (Oribts made me add an "l" in Helll's Kitchen for fear of being offensive. Amazing time we live in.)

Visit to Broadway
Our trip ended up happening during the evacuation of Manhattan to prepare for Hurricane Irene. I can not express enough not only how safe I felt at this hotel during this time but also how prepared they seemed to be for anything that may happen. They set up a room to view movies and provided free popcorn. This allowed people to get out of their rooms and meet new people. This hotel went above and beyond to make everyone comfortable. Cheers!

New York , New York!
I would definitely recommend the Intercontinental at Times Square for comfort, cleanliness and location. Subway was minutes away ( & safe and easy to use, despite our previous reservations). All the theatres were close by, should you need them and it was central for shopping, Central Park,Grand Central Station, Empire State etc, all ,a few blocks away. My own disappointment was in the places to eat - having been to Florida several times.

Don't hesitate to walk anywhere- you see the sights from a local's perspective. Take lunch to one of the many local park's - the Policemen readily help with directions - visit Ground Zero, it's really moving!

The good, the bad and the really ugly
Excellent rooms, large beds, friendly reception desk, all at a very reasonable price given the location, except they take it all at the la carte prices for breakfast $110 for one scrambled egg, one cereal, one croissant, one poached egg and toast, that's ridiculous. What really upset me was a bold white porter who was very rude in getting his tip from me, the guy was not even giving me chance to move my luggage which I wish if I could get his name to report him, if you think the breakfast price was fair and you can put up with the porter rude attitude then it's a great value for money

Hot time in the city
We arrived early to NYC so stopped at the hotel to see if our room was available. It was not, but we were offered pre-registration and were to be called when the room was ready. We were able to check our baggage and walk comfortably around the city. We walked through Time Square which is conveniently close to the hotel. Variety of food and gift shops near the hotel. We dined at Morimoto's in Chelsea, a short cab ride from the hotel, walked the High Line which is a must for anyone in NYC, saw an art show and had dinner in Brooklyn. We had a long day in the 100+ degree heat. So it was a fantastice surpise to come back to a cool and elegantly decorated hotel to relax in after the long day on our feet. Every member of the staff we encountered were extremely friendly and accomodating from the bell boys to the front desk staff to housekeeping. I will definitely be back!

Grandmas and Grand daughters
Intercontinental NY Times Square
My sister and I took our two grand daughters to NY for 3 nights and 4 days of sight seeing, shopping and Broadway shows. The Intercontinental was in an excellent location for easy access to all of these activities. All of the theaters were within easy walking distance as was shopping. We were one block from Times Square and all transportation was easily accessed for sight seeing. The hotel was beautiful, clean, and quiet. The staff was friendly and attended to all of our needs within minutes of our requests. Our room was large and very well appointed. When we return to NY, we will not even consider using a different hotel. The Intercontinental is an excellent hotel.

Great Location!
This was a long-awaited, very first trip to NYC for myself and 2 girlfriends. We had a 3 night stay in this hotel. We were interested in seeing the city and some Broadway shows and wanted to be close to Times Square. This hotel was located a quick block away from the Square so it was perfect. It was walking distance to everything important, sharing the block with Shake Shack (great burgers) and on the same street as a couple of theatres. We asked for a refrigerator when we checked in and found it to be too expensive at $30 per day. It was a pleasant surprise to have free internet access however. I was a little apprehensive about having 2 double beds instead of queens but it turned out to be a non-issue as the beds were very comfortable. The rooms were very clean, had modern, contemporary decor and were very pleasant to be in. We loved the large flat screen tv, the fact that our ipod could be plugged into the alarm clock and the quiet yet effective air-conditioning! I was surprised that there was no convenience type store in the lobby area for various sundries or snacks. We did not try the restaurant in the hotel or room service but were pleased when we could go to the business centre and print off our boarding passes without any charge. I had paid a little extra for a room between floors 7-14 but we were initially put in a room on the 6th floor with an undesirable view of a brick wall. As we did not intend on spending much time in the room we did not say anything initially. On our last afternoon I called to request a late check-out for the next day and inquired about why we were not on the 7th floor or higher. Apparently there were no rooms available when we checked in but management immediately apologized and offered us a variety of compensation items. We chose to move up to the 21st floor for our last night and were welcomed by a complementary bottle of wine and a magnificent view of the city for our troubles!! I wish I would have done this earlier!! Overall, we had a great experience in this very friendly hotel. The staff were great. We had our luggage stored (our late check-out was for 2pm, so we stored our luggage until 6pm)so that was conveniant as well. We would stay here again and would recommend it to anyone.

Sightseeing tip:
Short walk from hotel
Take a double decker bus tour! There are a couple of tour companies offering "hop on-hop off" style tours of the city. You can buy a pass for 48 hours (or less, or more) and get off any time you see something interesting, then just hop back on to continue that leg of the tour. It is very reasonable priced and offers night tours as well! We got our tickets in Times Square but you can also get them at virtually every bus stop they have.
