Midtown hotel awash in whimsical luxury near Central Park
Uber-modern design, whimsical touches and luxurious amenities are all rolled into the Hudson hotel near the Time Warner Center and Central Park. A glowing, yellow escalator greets guests and transports them to the lobby, with its 40-foot, ivy-covered ceiling. Inside, guests relax in the hotel's indoor park or take in the view from the private terrace. A gym, library and on-site restaurant round out the amenities.Highlights
- Unique, modern design
- Private indoor park and private terrace
- A block from Time Warner Center and Central Park
Location
The hotel is just a block from Columbus Circle and Central Park. The Time Warner Center at Columbus Circle houses shops and high-end restaurants, such as Thomas Keller's Per Se and acclaimed steak house Porter House New York. Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center are a few blocks away, and the Theater District and Times Square are a short walk down Broadway.
Rooms
The rooms are small in size but big on design. Floors and walls are paneled in Makore wood imported from Africa, and custom bedside lamps have hand-painted designs. Amenities include flat-screen HDTVs, Wi-Fi (fees apply) and agua by Korres bath products. Larger accommodations include a 1,500-square-foot apartment with wood-burning fireplace and tented terrace, and the penthouse with an ivy-covered solarium housing the living and dining rooms.
Features
A private park provides an unexpected oasis in the middle of the lobby. Guests can enjoy the hotel's version of the outdoors all year long thanks to huge trees, an eclectic mix of furniture, heating and a glass ceiling. The private, landscaped Sky Terrace offers a secluded hideaway with a view. Upholstered lounge chairs are available for relaxing. Wood paneling and leather furniture give the hotel library a studious atmosphere. Guests can shoot pool on the antique pool table, browse the large selection of books, or use one of the laptop computers.
Dining
On-site Hudson Hall serves breakfast, lunch and dinner daily. The restaurant is designed to evoke a cafeteria in an Ivy League school and has long, communal wooden tables and red brick walls. The menu features small plates made with organic, locally grown ingredients.
Recreation
The gym is open 24 hours. Guests can make appointments for personal training sessions and spa treatments during select hours.

Tiny rooms, GREAT location
As a home base, a great location 1/2 block from Columbus Circle and the 59st subway stop, numerous bus connections, on the SW corner of Central Park. About halfway between The American Museum of Natural History (think dinosaurs and planetarium) and Times Square. The "Shops at Columbus Circle" include a Whole Foods store on the lower level, with prepared foods and eating space if you're looking for an inexpensive alternative to restaurant prices. One caution: the hotel rooms at the Hudson don't include coffemakers or free internet access ($10/day). And they are VERY small by comparison to your average chain hotel. More like Paris or Tokyo basics. It's a happening hotel with lots of young people.

Coming with a car? Check first on Central Parking garage website, they have a garage on 58th between 8th and 9th Avenue, and print out a coupon. We were there for 5 nights and saved half the fee. And if you've got a few days to see many sights, get a City Pass! (also available online beforehand).

The Hudson in Review
If it is appropriate to critique what appears to be something of a postmodern experiment, this hotel is preposterously overrated and overpriced. Chief among my concerns there, then, were the miniature rooms and lackadaisical concierge, which were disillusioning to be sure.

If you are heading downtown, e.g., to Penn Station, do not hail a cab on 58th Street. Instead, ask the bellhop to hail one on 9th Avenue, otherwise the cabbie must take the more circuitous route around Columbus Circle.

Perfect location for work
I love everything about this hotel, even the tiny rooms. The standard rooms are tight, but for one person there's sufficient space, and the upside is that they're perfectly designed little jewel boxes. Lovely staff and public spaces. As a business traveler, the location is ideal: walking distance not only to work, but to everything I may need for work (FedEx, Staples, art store, hardware store). Whole Foods across the street for stocking up on food for the day, Europan downstairs for late nights, great restaurants on the block. Very happy here.

Great Location, Average Accommodation!
Last weekend I went to Manhattan and I stay @ the Hudson Hotel in the west side of the city. The location of the Hotel is great (Next to the Lincoln Center and the Park). The overall was OK! It's beautifully decorated by Philippe Starck, but the room furniture and fixtures are pretty worn out, the size of the rooms are very small, although I stay in a bigger room because I wanted 2 beds. In Short, the room was way too expensive for the accommodation they have.

Unusual, convenient, very compact
This hotel was recommended by a friend, although I suspect they stayed in a fancier room than our standard queen.Pros: V convenient location for a first-time visit to NYC, near Central Park and a subway station and plenty of cheap and cheerful restaurants in Hell's Kitchen.[...].Bed was super comfy and generally clean, although the single drawer was dusty inside, window was very dirty and it seemed the bath did not get cleaned after use.Lobby is funky and the two outside bars are great, albeit extremely pricey. The sky terrace appeared to be closed/unmanned the one night we tried to go and drink there, despite the claim that it's open every night.Cons: Extremely small room, but surely you know that already. OK for a base/bed for a few nights. Just think of it as "cosy"!Very loud - and CONSTANT - traffic noise outside: general noise that didn't let up even in the wee hours, and honking horns all through the night, every night (despite signs outside warning that honking = $350 fine). Also, the room doors were inclined to slam shut so even people leaving their rooms down the corridor early in the morning could wake you.$10 a day (? no details given of whether this is for a 24-hour period or what) for wi-fi is a bit ridiculous. No coffee maker or any other frills in room.

Great style, Great location!
It was just what I was expecting! I've stayed at the Mondrian in Scottsdale, AZ and loved that Morgan Hotel. I wanted that same feel and found it in the Hudson for a much lower price than the Mondrian NYC. The style and atmosphere was contemporary yet had a way of blending traditional woods and rooms such as the Library Bar into a modern hip feel. One of the coolest designed and fashionable hotels I've ever stayed at. The standard room I stayed in was very small, but I didn't mind because it looked great and modern. I'd definitely stay here again on my next NYC trip. It's across the street from an upscale mall and only a block from Central Park. Thursday and Friday nights the bars at the hotel were live and filled with people ... a great place to hang out. Truly a cool place, truly contemporary taste.
