Actually, pretty good...

Have seen many negative reviews for this Hotel... Shame... It's not the 'Ritz' but it's nowhere near the price either... This is a busy, large hotel in a great location... The rooms & corridors are a little tired, but our suite was clean & serviced daily... The Location & cost of this hotel far outweigh any aesthetic let downs... Seriously, if you're in your room long enough to be dissapointed, you need to get out more..!! Would recommend to anyone on a budget who wants a base in a great location...

AVOID AT ALL COSTS

This is the worst hotel I have ever stayed in. I was shocked that in the year 2013, the USA are offering a hotel of this standard. Upon arrival at our room, we seriously considered booking elsewhere regardless of the cost. The room was dark, smelly, dirty and very dated. It had nothing going for it. I was scared to walk bare foot on the carpets. The bathroom was grubby & the shower curtain filthy. Thankfully, we were out all day seeing so spent very little time here. My friend's bed was lumpy & rolling off to one side. We were scared to touch the blankets. The entrances to the hotel smelt of urine as did our 7th floor corridor. The stressed out staff were either snappy & unpleasant or completely nonchalant. Had it not been for the fact NYC is such an amazing place, this hotel could have completely ruined our holiday.

Location, location, location

Although it is an old, crowded hotel it makes it all up for its location. It is very easy to get anywhere in teh city from there. Yes, it may need a little bit more TLC but the sheets were clean every night, the bathroom was clean too. Besides, how much time do you spend at the hotel when you are in NYC?

Great location; old old interior

I knew it was going to be old but we were shocked by how dark and gloomy it was on inside. Great location and good for only sleeping not for comfort.

girl's get away

We've stayed here a few times, so convenient to take the train in and stay across the street. Easy walk to Broadway, etc. Cab to 911 Memorial wasn't bad either. Rooms are a little quirky, a little warm. For three people the room was a little small, but other times we've had a much bigger room, and we are spending time in the room, catching up. Its definitely not a building of cookie cutter rooms! Still, a good time and staff is always responsive.

Reliving the past

The location was perfect. Room a bit dark (as in decor) but warm and clean and bed very comfortable. EN-suite a bit grotty - looked like someone had painted the shower base and the paint was peeling - but it was clean. The staff were very helpful when asked. The only fault I found was the delay in check-in. We arrived at 2.45 p.m. to find a line of people waiting to check in and within minutes the line behind us was back out to the street. There were not enough staff on the desk at the time of check in, if each computer were manned it would have been much faster. It would also have been nice to have tea making facilities in the room. Overall a good experience though.

Good location but need friendly staff

The hotel is well located in the heart of Manhattan. It's awesome. The rooms are very small and old. The window did not closed at all and the cold wind was a undesirable company. The staff people need a reconstruction of humor urgent :-)

Great Base

Hotel is in central position to catch Boltbus and Amtrak. Room decor rather dated but this could be considered part of its charm. Although not at an uncomfortable temperature, the room was never really warm even though the heat was at maximum. Staff were amenable. I arrived very early from JFK and was given a room at at about 11 o'clock. Very good for the price paid.

Sightseeing tip: Long walk from hotel

To get to the 9/11 Memorial take the subway. Paying for the subway requies knowledge so first use the subway when help is available. ie before 5:00pm. You need to get a card with a minimum of $10. No day passes only 7 day.
