Good experience

I thought the Hotel Pennsylvania was a great place to stay based on the location and the price was right. It's old and the walls, ceilings and rugs could use some renovating but it was clean, the lights worked & the plumbing worked. What more do you need? I don't want to pay for 5 star quality if I'm only there to sleep.

Stay almost anywhere else when in NYC

- Turn of the century hotel, large room. - Room has not had a dime invested in upkeep in at least 50 years. - Broken furniture collapsing before your eyes. No coffee maker in room, 25 year old TV barely sitting on broken shelf in broken cabinet. - Original tiny bathroom, mold on ceiling & walls, sink literally falling off the wall. - Mattress and pillows God knows how old, hard as a rock, pillow like pancakes. - Took two days for them to send maintainace to put light bulbs in empty sockets and replace strobing light in bath. - None functional controls for none existent heat. - Three day business stay, housekeeping never cleaned/dusted, vacuumed carpet or removed garbage. - Walls paper thin, people partying in adjacent rooms, had to call security nightly. Don't plan on getting any sleep. - Staff had the worst attitude I have ever experienced. (Business traveler, trust me, I've experienced a lot of bad attitude.) - All this for a mere $300 bucks a night, bad attitude no extra charge! And no, there were no other rooms available.

okay

The room was fine. But the reception was not. The receptionists behaved as if they hated their job. a smile and afew kind words would go a long way. It would take no more time to check people in with a customer-oriented attitude. Also, house-keeping people no longer tuck bed sheets in, but place them on top of the mattress so they wrinkle after 5 minutes. All this would be easy to fix. Otherwise my experience was good.

Great location; old old interior

I knew it was going to be old but we were shocked by how dark and gloomy it was on inside. Great location and good for only sleeping not for comfort.

girl's get away

We've stayed here a few times, so convenient to take the train in and stay across the street. Easy walk to Broadway, etc. Cab to 911 Memorial wasn't bad either. Rooms are a little quirky, a little warm. For three people the room was a little small, but other times we've had a much bigger room, and we are spending time in the room, catching up. Its definitely not a building of cookie cutter rooms! Still, a good time and staff is always responsive.

A blast from the past

Reliving the past

The location was perfect. Room a bit dark (as in decor) but warm and clean and bed very comfortable. EN-suite a bit grotty - looked like someone had painted the shower base and the paint was peeling - but it was clean. The staff were very helpful when asked. The only fault I found was the delay in check-in. We arrived at 2.45 p.m. to find a line of people waiting to check in and within minutes the line behind us was back out to the street. There were not enough staff on the desk at the time of check in, if each computer were manned it would have been much faster. It would also have been nice to have tea making facilities in the room. Overall a good experience though.
