Great location, very basic hotel

Terrificly convenient Midtown location at a great price. The hotel is worn and old - don't stay here if you plan to spend much time in the room.

Ideal for a short break

This is a very large, very busy hotel. The room was smaller than it looked on the website, but it had two double beds, small wardrobe, large tv, and a small but adequate bathroom (uk readers, think "travelodge"). No room to swing a cat, but a good "home base". Although the room looked like it needed an update, it was cleaned and given new towels every day, with the rubbish taken out and beds made daily. For a place to sleep, wash and prepare for the day, it was spot on for what we paid. You get what you pay for, and we were satisfied!

Sightseeing tip: Short walk from hotel

Plan and do your homework on tourist attractions as prices can vary massively depending on where you pay. Get out and about early in the day, and make sure you have good shoes for a lot of walking.

this is New York

This is an old well used hotel, It is clean, compact and an international melting pot. If you require a plush spa like hotel-SPEND the big bucks and stay at one, if you are on a budget and want easy acccess to touristville USA-then this is a bargain for you.

Location, location, location

Although it is an old, crowded hotel it makes it all up for its location. It is very easy to get anywhere in teh city from there. Yes, it may need a little bit more TLC but the sheets were clean every night, the bathroom was clean too. Besides, how much time do you spend at the hotel when you are in NYC?

Not great, but has everything you need

Staying at this hotel is a little bit like flying with Southwest or Ryanair. You get good price, a great location, just don't be expecting luxury - and anything that you might want is likely going to cost you additional fees. All that said, the hotel provides what most people going to New York are looking for - a clean room, a perfect central location and a cheap price (compared to other hotels in the area). The staff is fairly rude and to the point, but they get what they need to do done. The room is basic but provides a comfortable bed, TV and a clean bathroom. Aside from this, there was little else I was looking for in my stay, since I was not planning on spending much time at the hotel anyway. If you're coming to see the city and don't want to spend a fortune on the hotel, this is a good option. If you want the hotel to be an experience in and of itself, then try The Hilton or the W.

Simple,clean,great value

Yes,the plaster was peeling, the heating/ac system is ancient, but the hotel was clean, friendly and buzzing with good nature. I was here many times in the 1980's when the city was in rapid decline, and it has turned around for the better... Great location and value, will stay there again!

Worst Hotle to stay in NYC

The Hotel itself looked so dirty and run down for the prices they were asking. If it was not for my discount and voucher I would be even extremely upset. I reserved for a view of the city with a king size bed. I was giving 2 double beds and a view of a brick wall. Then when I went down to complain they said they had one room left with a king size bed which I took. The room was a view of another brick wall with a huge cabinet that took up most of the room space. No reason for anyone to spend their money there. I would think a place right in the heart of 34th street would be even allowed a license to do business there.

Great location

Only two complaints: 1) Hot water in shower wouldn't stay at a consistent temperature. It would go from lukewarm to very hot about every 20 seconds. 2) Breakfast was nothing special- just bagels, pastries, sometimes some apples, and coffe and orange juice. I would stay in this hotel again, because the location was perfect. I also had some packages delivered there and the mail room was very organized. Good bang for my buck!
