Hotel Mela for Thanksgiving Weekend

Hotel Mela is a nice hotel, but not so fantastic I'd write home about it. Location is perfect, less than one block from the heart of Time Square, one block from the subway and a short walk to Rockefeller. Our room was probably the smallest room I've had in a while, but that's what could be expected in NY; it was orderly and clean. Upon first entry into the room, it smelled like mothballs but that dissipated with time. About halfway through the stay, a different smell began coming from the AC unit (mildew, almost a urine smell) but it dissipated as well when I left the fan on in the AC unit. Overall, everything functioned well in the room, staff was attentive and it was a great location. And really, on a trip to NYC, how long do you expect to spend inside your hotel room.

Great All Around

The hotel was great. Great location, clean and friendly staff. The room is small but just big enough for the purposes of sleeping and hanging out in between going back and forth to Time Square to have fun.

Where's the rest of my furniture?

Great location. Rooms and lobby are small (aka boutique) but look good. Everything works, and the staff is good. Problem? The standard single room has space for a chair at the least and maybe a small desk, but has neither. The bed is the only place to sit. Better values a few blocks away.

NYC

The location of the hotel was fantastic. We were in the heart of Times Square. This allowed us to explore Manhattan to its fullest. We caught a :roadway show, went to Central Park, took a bus and boat tour, and ate at fabulous restaurants. The room was small but clean and well decorated. The staff was friendly as well.

Good and Small

I went on a business training week. The room was very clean. Free internet! Room has a safe big plus for electronics. Hotel is 2 minute walk from Duffy square and Broadway! Small elevators could not fit more than 6 people without any bags. Had to call every time I wanted ice which usually take 5-10 minutes to get there but one night I called at 9:30pm and never got my ice called again 15 minutes later and range six times before someone answered and was put on hold for over a minute before I hung up and I called again 5 minutes latter and rang 10 time before I gave up. So if you get ice get it before 9pm. And my key stopped working on my last night. Which I went downstairs and got fixed no problem. But for paying $300+ a night I was expecting not to have any problems with my stay.

Would stay here again

I took my daughter to NYC for her 18th birthday and we had a great time. The Hotel Mela was a great place to stay. It was clean, the staff was friendly and helpful, and it was close to all the action without being in the midst of it all.

The French restaurant across the street was great. Good crepes and the wait staff was very professional. Stay away from the chain restaurants in NYC.

Excellent location for an excellent pric

My wife and I enjoyed our stay at Hotel Mela while on a long weekend trip to NYC. Location was great(less than a block from the heart of Times Square). While there we took in a show, which we were able to walk to, saw a Yankees game, and explored the city. Room was ample in size and very clean. Staff was very friendly and accomodating.
