Could've Been Better
The location was awesome. The hotel was minutes away from Broadway, Bryant Park, NY Public Library, and 10-15 mins from the Empire State Bldg. That being said, the hotel itself was ok. There was no microwave, you had to contact the front desk every time you wanted ice, and the toilet was not as clean as it could've been. They were doing construction in front of the hotel when I checked out, and they were unable to call me a cab. I was instructed to walk to the corner of the street from the hotel and haul a cab myself. It was over 95 degrees outside and I carrying several heavy bags. The hotel experience overall was meh.

Only recommended if the price is right and no kids along for the trip
Stayed 7 nights. Saw three different rooms during the process, so this is a review you can rely on. Good: Location around corner from Times Square and within walking distance of subway, delis, broadway shows, restaurants, etc. Except for carpeting, room was sparking clean for us. H2O shampoo, conditioner and lotion is fabulous. Filtered water available in workout room to fill water bottles before going out for the day. Safe in room is a good size. Paper in lobby is free. Free coffee in lobby, if you don't mind them mentioning to you that there is a coffee shop nearly when you go to get it. Apples in lobby and workout room for breakfast each morning. Quiet at night except for in-room air conditioning unit. I inspected each room for bed bugs which is a problem in NYC (and other sites have this hotel on the list of hotels that have had the problem) and found none. Staff friendly or indifferent (never rude). Bad: Housekeeping stole phone charging cords from room at first opportunity. Good thing we locked in safe all other electronics. When reported to front desk, was told housekeeping does not take things from rooms. On many occasions lukewarm water was all that was available for shower/bath. Carpet in each room filthy. They do not like customers booked outside their site. Take your booking printouts to prove you are entitled to a queen bad, superior room, etc. Even then, expect the smallest room you can imagine. First room (room 719) had a double bed and smelled very bad, when paid for a queen. After discussion, upgraded to a queen bed (room 519) with about a foot around sides of bed and no smell. Absolutely nowhere to get in luggage, eat a snack, etc., except on bed so might want to have linens changed during your stay (place card on bed). Flight cancelled and had to stay another night after checkout. No discount for having stayed six nights already. Third room (room 308) had an extra foot of space around bed, which makes a difference. There are blackout curtains, so search for them behind regular curtains. You will need them if on the inside because room windows face each other. The view from most any room will be a unkept brick wall with missing bricks, pigeon droppings. The third room had an upgraded view of a running HVAC unit with mops and debris around it, and the added value of extra white noise. Of course, hotel is not as nice as the pictures. Lobby is tiny. Besides the theft, the hardest part is that when you return from a long day, the room is tiny and there is nowhere else to go in the hotel to unwind (no pool, sauna, whirlpool, lobby or public area, bar, etc.) If the price is right and traveling with no kids, I could recommend this hotel.

Short walk from hotel
Walk around corner to Cranberry Deli for breakfast each morning. On weekdays, there is a street fruit vendor on the corner along the walk to pick up banannas for 50 cents each, blueberries, etc. Cranberry Deli has everything and will serve you a freshly cooked to order breakfast for $4. Go upstairs to eat it. The locals eat there.

Surprising gem
First time at this hotel. Rooms are a bit small but very modern, clean and comfortable. The best thing is the staff. They were the most friendly and accommodating hotel staff I have encountered in about 50 trips to NYC.

Great Location, but not the cleanest or nicest
I have stayed in this hotel each year for the last four years. It is located perfectly for someone who spends most of their time in midtown, but who also wants a good location from which to branch out. The rooms are rather large compared to New York standards and well appointed. However, the housekeeping needs to be seen to better. This trip there was noticible mold in the grout in the bathroom, hairs left behind and stains on the curtains.

Money-saving tip:
Short walk from hotel
Get comfortable using the subway system. A week long Metro card costs $29 and is the best way to get around the city. There are several smartphone apps that take the confusion out of the maze of tunnels but be certain to check them before heading down into the station. Reception is nonexistant on the platforms.

Not what I expected
First of all, there were two reasons why I picked this hotel. One was location, and the second was the continental breakfast that was included. Well, when I got to the hotel, I was told that breakfast was not included. I called the number and they said there was nothing they could do about it. Since i had planned a five day stay, it cost me an extra $ 60-150 for the minimum breakfast foods. I was also told that there was a minibar, but that if we took anything out of it for more than 10-15 seconds, it would be charged to my credit card. They had wonderfully overpriced items like the $ 11 nuts and $10 water. Although I asked them to take all this junk out, they said it would have to wait. They never removed it. Consequently, I had no refrigeration for anything I wanted to bring to the room. Speaking of the room, there were two of us and we booked a king or double occupancy. What we got was a double bed. After a couple of nights of two of us sleeping in a bed meant for one, both of us developed a strange rash on our legs. I can only guess what the cause of this was, but it did come from the bed. Not only was the bed small and uncomfortable, the room was tiny. The shower was the smallest I have ever been in. A contortionist might have been able to touch his knees, but not his feet. We only got one clean washcloth per day for two people, although there were stacks of them in the exercise area. There was not even a restroom on the ground floor for guests. The location of the hotel and the difficulties of booking another hotel at such short notice was the only reason I stayed in the hotel. The staff, especially the countermen was not overly rude, but they were not at all helpful. The exception was a young man named Dan who helped us hail a cab and helped us with our bags when we left. He was the only bright spot in the whole place. Needless to say, I feel cheated by this hotel. The pictures on its website do not indicate how small the place really is. -

My hotel room was fine after I got switched because the air conditioning was broken and it was 80. When I arrived at 1:30PM on Sat, people in the lobby were very angry because they were waiting an hour for their cars to be delivered after checking out.
