Travelling winemaker
Great find for NYC
Mela doesn't have any frills - no gym, not much of a lobby, weak WiFi, the rooms are small (its NYC). However it is clean and elegant. My tiny rooms was nicely furnished and very comfortable. The staff was friendly and helpful. Put all of this together with an outstanding location and it makes for an outstanding value. I would definitely come back to Mela and would recommend it to anyone.

Starbucks with real WiFi is one block over. Just walk through the lobby of the Mellinium hotel across the street and take a left on 45th street. That is where I went to get work done. The WiFi in my hotel room basically didn't exist.

horrible experience
my room was no bigger than a closet, when you open the door you literally fell on the bed. the staff was sub standard. i felt like i was in a jail cell when i had to stay in my room. the only good thing was the location.

Dirty
This hotel is filthy. It appears that they have not cleaned the carpeting in years, there was dust on the lamp and all over the bathroom, and when i arrived at my first room and pulled back the sheets, there was hair all over the sheets. So i moved to another room. The sheets were clean, but the rest of the room was dirty as well. This certainly is NOT a 4-star hotel.

Pleasure Trip
Great Hotel. Very clean. Location was absolutely perfect, 2 minute walk to middle of Times Square. Room was small, as was bathroom, but we expected this for New York, and didn't spend much time at the hotel anyway. Would definitely stay again, and got a great deal.

Eat breakfast at the Cranberry Cafe on 45th Street, just one block over. Food was very reasonably priced, and very good. Deli-style restaurant - but place to eat upstairs. They also have great panini's and other sandwiches for lunch. Cheap place to eat with good quality food.

Senior who loves New York
Great Value
After reading other reviews, we were not disappointed about the small room. It was very pleasant and because we had only carry-on size bags, we were able to store them out of the way. The small elevators were speedy and not a problem. The employees were pleasant and helpful. We loved being so close to Times Square. We enjoyed 4 musicals, for which we were able to get discounted tickets. I could have done without the "courtesy" bar, which we were afraid to touch, because if you lift an item, you get charged for it and without it there would be a little more room.

There are hundreds of restaurants and food stands close by. Baba Gump's is great. Get there at off hour or you can wait a hour to get in. But then, pick the kind of food you want and you can find it within a block.
