Peace and quiet in New York

Still a great find. When you have finished with the crowds come back to the Beacon for a relaxing rest. The staff go way out to help you. The rooms are just right. Peace perfect peace. Want to eat where the locals eat then head up town. All in all this is a great Hotel. I have stayed here time and time again and will continue to.

disappointing

I have stayed at the Beacon many times., but I will not return to the hotel. Although the location is wonderful, our stay was very disappointing. One of the three elevators was out of service. Without exaggerating, this resulted in waits of up to !5 minutes for an elevator. As acknowledged by the staff, despite the fact that this was high season, the hotel thought this was appropriate time to do refurbishing. Our bed was soft and saggy and the room wasn't as clean as it should have been. On my next trip to NYC, I will book elsewhere.

A Real Find

The Beacon is a great find. We've stayed there numerous times before and were happy to see that it had been renovated since our last stay. It couldn't have been better. The staff was very helpful and very friendly. It's close to the subway, has a Fairway grocery store directly across the street to make use of the in-room kitchenette, and only blocks from Central Park. We will definitely stay at the Beacon during our next trip to NYC.

Fantastic Hotel!

Great hotel with an excellent location. Immediately adjacent to the Beacon Theater - so a great choice if you're headed to a concert or show. In addition, the neighborhood has a great variety of restaurants, bars and shops. A great value and good experience all around. Enjoy!

Really convenient location on

Really convenient location on 75th and Broadway. There is a great food market just across the road, there are good diners/restaurants nearby, the subway was on 72nd Street again very handy. we couldn't fault this hotel, my husband and I stayed there with our 2 teenage sons in a 2 bed/2 bath apartment which was excellent, loads of room for all of us. There is a laundry on the 7th floor which was great as we'd been travelling for 2 weeks! Would recommend this hotel for families.

Great room with a view.

This trip was to relax and have a personal vacation. The bed was very comfortable. I loved the view from my window, even the thunder storm outside was a great light show from my window. There was only one or two things that were a bit off. The shower sprayed everywhere and even got the toilet paper soaked. The noisy neighbor across the hall seem to think they were all alone in the hotel, with all the noise they were making. Other than that, the heat went out for a few minutes probably because of the heat wave outside. I loved the room and did not want to leave when it was time to go. GREAT LOCATION!!!!

Time-saving tip: Short walk from hotel

Fareway is a great grocery store across the street. After you check-in, go there and pick up some great organic snacks on the second floor, and keep them in your room for later. Don't forget to take a walk to H&H Bagel, which is open 24 hours, and have a fresh hot bagel for breakfast, lunch,or dinner. Good anytime. Another tip...if you want to save money and have the time, take the bus to the airport instead of a taxi. Take M104 to West 110th street and get the M60 to Laquardia Airport. Nice way to see more of the city.

My main gripe is the room was

My main gripe is the room was really small. It had a double bed in the room which I was occupying on my own, was just as well as there would wasn't enough room for two people to share. The other facilities in the bedroom were very good apart from the fact that you could not get to the sink easily as the unit was partially blocked by a wall. Also the air conditioning was quite noisy. I switched off the main unit as it was so loud but there was still a drone in the one corner of the room, this stopped if you opened the bedroom door but commenced again as soon as you shut it. The check in was quick and the concierge staff were extremely pleasant and helpful. There were loads of places very near the hotel to eat out or to buy ready cooked meals to take back to the room and a number of good shops of all types. Subway conveniant and the hotel was a walkable distance from time square - about half an hour in all.

upper is better

this is a great location--across from a great market Fairway)-one and one half blocks to a major subway station 72nd Street); short walk to Riverside Park, Central Park and Lincoln Center; not in the midst of all the tourists (i.e. Time Square); lots of good restaurants in the area--and a real deal considering hotel prices in NYC. The room was bright, clean and comfortable--I just wish they outfitted the kitchen with a real coffee pot, a sharp knife and some other utensils. It is great to have a small kitchen, but without some basic supplies it's not very usable. When the windows were open, the city noise is quite loud--not the hotel's fault of course, just an observation. Bathroom in our room was small but manageable.Staff was very friendly and helpful. I wish hotels would stop charging for wireless internet though. If Delta Airlines can offer it for free, hotels should too--I felt a bit ripped off by that. It can't be too expensive. Anyway, I would recommend this place to anyone who likes to explore New York without swarms of tourists.
