nice place for the price!

It was a great location especially for the price. The room was nice but had a little bit of a funk smell to it, but hey it was NY in the summer and extreme humidity. The room was decent size and had a queen bed and twin I think in it. A sink and vanity, but the bathrooms and showers are shared but not like I was first thinking that they were shared with the adjoining room. No they had quite a few in the hall ways just across from your room so not bad. Never had a problem with one being unavailable and this set up might just because the building seemed quite old and with the old style elevator. But overall I would definitely stay again if the price stays like it is.

Not really bad

My friends and I went there in July and we spent 3 nights. The hotel was clean. The room was pretty smell. However, the hotel is located in downtown near by the subway. But the problem was we had to share the bath rooms with other guests but if you don't mind waiting for other people. Its a ok hotel.

Convenience and Comfort at a low Cost.

Stayed at Hotel 17 because it was close to my weekend Career Fair at Altman building and had Wifi. Walk-able distance to the Union Square subway station (and many restaurants and taverns) made it very convenient, and the staff was super friendly and helpful (even went out of their way to print something for me before my event). No problem with shared bathrooms, and the rooms were quiet and comfortable. I definitely recommend this!

Good deal

Given th eprice and location, I consider it a good deal, if you don't mind the shared bathroom thing. Overall the bathrooms were clean though, can get a little busy in the morning.

Meets expectations for low cost NYC visit

This hotel meets my expectations for NYC; it was a cheap room and this reflected in the size and bedding. The bathrooms are all shared on each floor; the room is tiny. However, it is in NYC; I can't complain with the price given the outstanding location on the lower east side. Staff was friendly and courteous. I recommend for a low cost trip if you don't plan to spend much time in your room (and why would you if you are going to NYC? We only used the room to nap and sleep; the rest of our time was on-foot in the city).
