Penny wise and pound foolish

This hotel has two important factors in its favor, worth, in my opinion, about a star a piece: its central location in midtown Manhattan, very near the Park and not too far from the Columbus Circle subway station, and the cleanliness of the rooms. The comfort basics for a decent night's sleep were all there. That said, I do have some gripes: - In these times, a hotel that advertises free internet access should be embarrassed at having so little bandwidth that in five out of seven attempts to log on I received a message informing me that too many users were already logged on to allow any more. - No hotel that chargers around $150 a night for a room should have a hot-water system that is suddenly overwhelmed in the middle of a morning shower. - The breakfasts are, in a word, not worth the cost, counting gratuity, which is pre-charged. I was happy enough with the servers, except for their carrying out the hotel policy of offering orange juice and coffee at the beginning of the meal as if they were free, when in fact eight ounces of orange juice cost half as much as the cheapest omelette on the menu.

Dining tip: Not Applicable

The best two meals I had were both down in the West Village, on Bleeker Street: "Fish," where I had excellent food and service for a (New York scale) bargain price, and "Ghandi Cafe," which offered quite good Indian food in the same price range.

Needs updates

Decent location, but the rooms seemed dingy, and dirty. Didn't feel clean. Long wait for elevators.

A Little Good, A Lot Bad

My wife and I went for our 1 year anniversary. The location of the hotel was very good.. 10 minute walk to Central Park and 15 minute walk to Times Square, with restaurants all around. The hotel room itself was not good at all.. No AC entire trip(apparently they turn it off in spring and fall. Bed was uncomfortable and they were in process of painting hallway.. so smelled bad entire time. Hotel staff were very pleasent though.

Not the best experience

The air conditioner was leaking all over the carpet during a record breaking heat wave and causing a terrible odor in the room. We called the front desk but no one answered so we went to the front desk and explained the problem. No apology or offer to move us, the attendant just said "ok, I'll send nsurance and housekeeping." Maintenance eventually came but housekeeping never did. We had to stay in the smelly room the entire week we were there. A day later, we called housekeeping for more soap and toilet paper, they came hours later with tooth paste and tooth brushes. We didn't get what we asked for until the next day when the housekeeper came in.

Don't eat near broadway or times square. Eating in the little family owned businesses is cheaper, better service and better food.

Eh.

Good location for me. Quieter area, close to Central Park. Not good for the young night life, that's all about 40 blocks to the south. Good: Decent room service, friendly staff, clean enough room. Bummer: My room service trays stayed outside my room in the hall for all 4 days!!! Each time I walked by, I'd look at my rotting eggs and jelly'd toast! Insane!! My TV remote was dead. Shoddy construction and finishes made it clear that the rooms were remodeled by the lowest bidding contractor. Your wife won't be excited, but a single guy would not have a problem staying here for the low cost. Have fun in NYC!

Central Location

This was a typical Holiday Inn. No surprises here. I liked staying here because it was close to everything I needed. Walking to Central Park and Lincoln Center was a breeze. The subway was close when I needed to travel to Harlem. The cleaning staff was very friendly and cooperative. So was the lobby staff. The hotel was clean and safe. The restaurant seemed like an overpriced highway cafe. My suggestion would be to go out on the street and look for all those great City eating establishments where locals eat. Stay away from tourists hot spots if you can do it.

Bathroom issue

When we arrived we were in a rush, therefore the quick check in was appreciated. Problem came when we got to our room, it became apparent immediately that the toilet was broken as it did not flush. We reported this to the front desk before we left for the evening. When we returned after midnight it was still broken, which is not a good thing when you are travelign with 2 children, who were forced to use the public restroom in the hotel. We reported before we check out and the manager was kind enough to comp us free breakfast. But to spend over $400 a night and not have a working bathroom is unacceptable. Other than the bathroom, Beds were comfortable, kids amazed by rooftop pool and staff was friendly.
