Dirty Rooms & Extra Charges

My boyfriend and I went away for a weekend in NY and decided to stay at the Grand Hyatt because it was rated 4 stars and close to a lot of attractions. The hotel was nice and so were the guest services however our room was disgusting! The bathroom looked like it had not been cleaned in a long time...there was shaven hair embedded into the shower floor and in the cracks along with mold (we had to wear flip flops). The bathroom vanity on the wall was dirty with water rings and dust. The glasses they provided had dried food bits in them and there was a huge hole in the wall that was very poorly patched up. The delux room was super small but that was expected since it is New York after all. The hotel was booked at 102% capacity so there was no way to switch to a different room. Not to mention the lady who checked us in told us that upon arrival and kind of laughed at the fact that some reservations were going to be turned away due to over-booking. We paid nearly $900 for two nights (Thurs-Fri) and feel like we should have stayed at a 2 star hotel because that's what we got. To top it all off I get home and check my bank account to find an additional fee of $716 that was charged to my account. According to the Hyatt it was a mistake and now I have to wait 2-5 business days to get a refund. This place is a joke and we wish we would've stayed elsewhere...maybe it was just bad luck for us?! New York City was awesome but our hotel...not so much!

Nightmare at Grand Hyat NYC

Terrible experience!!! One pretty expensive blouse was stolen from our room. It was on a laundry bag and someone looked inside it and took it. The staff couldn't care less about it and made nothing to resolve the incident. Also, the water heater broke down and when it was fixed, it came back like chocolate. The staff didn't make the guests aware of this situation and many of us took a shower under this condition.

They didn't even clean my room!

My room wasn't not cleaned for the second day of my stay. They promised to have the manager to call me the next day morning. No body did. I went to the lobby mentioned it to the manager. He didn't do anything to me.

Only select staff members helpful

We were in New York at the time of a Steam pipe burst, and were not able to access our hotel by taxi for 2 days of our stay. The repair of the pipe break went all night long with jack hammer type equipment. We were not offered any room on the other side of the hotel, or any other ways to make us more comfortable. We were all very dissapointed with our hotel.

If it is the subway you chose this is it

I was very impressed with the hotel when I walked into the lobby. The waterfall and grandness was nice. But!! I asked for early check in which they were nice enough to do. The toilet handle did not work, no coffee pot in the room because it is $8.00 downstairs. The room was clean but it wasn't very impressive for the reputation of being the Hyatt.

Great Location

The Grand Hyatt has a Grand Entrance, but once you get to your room, big disappointment...small room, no comfort seating area, no counter space in the bathroom, no personality.

Hyatt @ 42nd St

The staff was very helpful. At $350 a night you still have to pay $10 a day for internet. The room was relatively small & the TV reception was bad. Their new restaurant is horrible.

Bad experience

On our stay the hotel were going through some renovations. Fine. We were luckily enough to be put in one of the renovated rooms. To my disappointment the bathroom were not as clean as what a 5 star hotel should be. The sink and shower areas was filthy with black grimes as in poor housekeeping. I find it disgusting for a hotel of that standing to be kept untidy. The walls and corners of the room had plaster chipping. I thought it was just renovated not being torn down? That's the deal with the room. When me and my fiance were at the bar waiting for our drinks we weren't even offered water while others were. To make things worst while it took forever for our drinks to come I got bored and was reading the stuff on the cup mat and noticed water marks on them. Wow! I'm surprise a 5 star hotel is reusing their cup mat? Things didnt end there the 2Nd night we were there there were no hot water available from 10 pm til 7 the next day. I was angry Bc I couldn't shower with warm water! Overall, we just didn't have the experience we were hoping to have from a 5 star hotel.

You can find something better!

Overall, we were disappointed with our stay at the Grand Hyatt. My husband had stayed here several years before and enjoyed his stay, so we decided to try it again. Unfortunately, we will definitely not be staying there again. Our stay just started out on the wrong foot with our TV not working. It took the staff a considerable amount of time to get it working. Then, several electrical outlets weren't working, and that took time to repair. One morning, we ordered room service breakfast, and our order arrived incorrectly. They did replace the meal, but we had to eat our breakfast in bed at separate times. Finally, on our last night, we were getting ready for a dinner reservation, and the power in the entire room went out. We called to have it fixed, but it was not fixed in time for us to get ready like we would have liked. My husband was unable to finish ironing his pants, and I had to finish my make-up in the cab. Despite our numerous problems and calls to the front desk, we were not offered any consolations for the problems we encountered during our stay.
