ehhh.... could be better
I based my decision to get a room here based on others reviews.I want to give my review so you will make the best decision based on what you want to pay. We found the front desk staff not friendly when we arrived. They made us wait half an hour for our room because it wasn't clean and it was check in time. We arrived in our room to find it small, no view of Times Square. One light did not work, our television did not work and both nights we stayed there was a really loud noise and shaking in the room. I don't know if this is normal but it was there non the less. We did not spend hardly any time in the room except to sleep as we ventured out and saw everything in NYC while we were there. I can say I would not stay here next time we visit.

Shopping tip:
Long walk from hotel
Shopping in Soho is amazing! It can be a long walk or short subway trip. Do you research to what stores you want to visit and plan what to do first as there is so much to do.

Not comfortable room
The lobby was nice, but the rooms were small, and no space outside the bed. Also, the heater was not working, and the first room we were given had the window broken and cold air coming in. We got another room, but the heat was not working, but the hotel staff were nice and finally got us a space heater. It was not the most comfortable. The pictures of US presidents and their wives were modern artish and a little scary.

Great save
We went to the Hotel Del Sol and it was so bad that we moved hotels. This place was almost twice the price but totally worth it. Great location on Union Square. The rooms were clean and the staff was attentive. It made for a great "save" of our trip.

Great Location - Deluxe Suite was like roomy!
I loved the kitchy President's theme. Everywhere in this modern decor you could find whimsical portraits of presidents. The bar is right in the lobby - very casual. We watched one of the playoff games on the super large tv - also in the lobby. Staff was accommodating. The hotel was updated about 7 years ago, and it was apparent. The rooms were in need of some maintenance and the cleaning staff needed to pay more attention to food stuff stuck on the inside of the windows and on the wall to the mildew around the tub. Everything in room was askew or needed some sort of attention by the hotel staff - headboard was screwed to the wall at a crooked slant, chandelier crystals were dangling from chains that needed to be reattached, heater covers needed a paint job and were falling off. All that said, it was a fabulous location - 1/2 block from Times Square. The price was really good for what we got. The deluxe suite was one of the roomiest rooms we've stayed in in Manhattan. The Salt Water fish tank in the lobby provided a calm atmosphere in the lobby, and was greatly appreciated and admired.

We had Japanese at the Aoki restaurant in the lobby the first night and then Vietmanese food from the Saigon restaurant - also in the lobby. Both were terrific!

New Year's Eve Adventure
This is a great Times Square location. You are close enough to everything and yet off the main path of the crowd. This is my 3rd stay here, but the previous stays were better. Front desk was not as friendly as I had experienced before. I had to switch rooms after the first night, even though I had prepaid reservation for Jr. Suite, because when I checked in they said no suites were available. The 3 of us were given a Jr. suite the following day. I was refunded the difference on my credit card, and given free breakfast for my party the next day. In our suite, the sofa bed in room was in poor condition and the room just needed a bit of a "face lift". The housekeeping staff was very pleasant and friendly and kept the room up nicely. The bell man was also very attentive and helpful with the 3 times we had to have him keep our luggage. We came to see the ball drop on New Year's Eve but also saw Metro. Museum of Art, The Empire State Bldg. and many other sites. I would return to this hotel, but would hope that little improvements might be made. Again, great location!

Get to attractions early, when they open if possible. The lines can get incredibly long and you can spend hours waiting.

Not worth the money
The hotel was in a great location but our bathroom was extremely dirty and had mold in the shower. The water in the sink would not shut off. We also could not use our room key the day of checkout so I had to look for someone to open my room. I was also charged 25.00 for some unknown reason and have yet to receive a call back regarding the charge. Would not recommend this hotel.

Xmas in NY 2012
The rooms were clean, the bathroom shower/tub really needs a good cleaning/makeover. Locations is great. Saw the Xmas show @ Radio City, great great show. Went to Macys, Bryand Park, China Town, Little Italy. Went to Guy Fieries new restaurant, great food. Stopped by Hurleys next door for night cap & appetizers, great bar/restaurant. Good time in NY as always. Love everything about NY.

New York Trip
Great overall experience with this hotel! My third trip to the Big Apple and this hotel was great. Although the first night there we had to stay in a room I did not book, we were given vouchers for breakfast the next morning and moved into the suite I did book. Very wonderful staff. Will stay here again!

Not the best Best Western
The standard room had very little extras. A refrigerator was $10 extra per night. The room was extremely small. The view was the back alley & rooftops of other buildings. The description of the room on the internet is NOT the "standard" room. This hotel is very old, but NOT classy-just in need of repair. This is the absolute worst Best Western I have ever stayed. It is also the most expensive. I expected at the minimum the same quality as in other Best Western locations I have stayed. I would not choose this hotel again. It was clean-but wash cloths per person had to be requested.
